    seized bikes

I'd be more concerned at the fatigue life of the cable rather than it's current carrying capacity. Aluminium is fine for fixed rigid cables, it is not really suitable for small diameter flexible cables.

E-bike seizures surge as police take 'death traps' off the streets

If they are going to get serious they will do what they do over here. The police have access to a small portable dynamometer that is mainly used to identify tuned Mopeds but has been used to identify dongled ebikes too. I don't think it is actually calibrated for power but provides enough...

£245 Argos Folder Improvements - complete story

I very much doubt that many of those came from bikes with Bosch / Yamaha / Shimano etc systems which have higher level communications between the battery and charger / motor than a lot of the cheaper options.

    Getting back on......

Modern mountain bike geometry, riding position and riding style puts much more weight on the front wheel than "Old Skool", meaning you can use the front brake much more than you used to be able to. This enables you to slow down much better, even going downhill (bear in mind I live in the Alps so...

    Comfortable saddle for long distance?

Exactly, if the saddle is too wide then you either get pushed to the front of it or you end up riding with the saddle too low and your knees sticking out ( a lot of people do this anyway) .

Ebike powered heated winter cycling suit

M Most skiers who require extra warmth use heated footbeds (insoles) rather than socks. Given you need clean socks daily (one would hope) then the average holidaymaker would need multiple pairs. I personally have never come across anyone using heated socks despite dealing with hundreds of...

£245 Argos Folder Improvements - complete story

That is the way most (all?) cable operated disc brakes work, if you don't adjust the inside pad after every few brake applications they don't work properly. The whole system is crazy relying on flexing of the brake rotor, no wonder they get noisy.

Help! Is an Electric Bike Suitable for Long Mountain Rides?

As I actually live and ride in the Alps maybe I am best placed to answer your question. Firstly no one here rides hub motored bikes, all are Bosch / Yamaha or Shimano torque sensing mid motors. Secondly the answer above that says most have 400 or 500Wh is a few years out of date, the most...

    Battery Fires

Does a fridge burn with the same intensity / explosivity and give off the same toxic fumes as a battery?

    Switzerland’s best e-bike tour – Route 1291| Switzerland Tourism

Try multiplying your 1600m by at least 2. I live in the lowlands of the Austrian Alps (considerably lower than parts of Switzerland), immediately outside my door is a climb from 800 to 1600m, just down the road I can climb to over 2000. If I was to take a short train ride I could be up to close...

    Traffic noise while riding.

Perhaps we should ban motorcycle helmets for moped riders then, you certainly can't hear anything behind you when you are flat out at 30mph on a noisy 2 stroke! I often wear ear buds when cycling but admittedly not in heavy traffic and not very loud when on the road. I can't think of anytime...

    Traffic noise while riding.

But you can't do anything about it. A fast moving vehicle coming behind you that hasn't seen you will hit you whether you know it's there or not. Most people that I have seen reacting to traffic behind them cause more problems than they solve because they become unpredictable. If you pull in...

    Traffic noise while riding.

Does it actually make any difference if you can hear clearly what is behind you? You usually can't do anything about it anyway.

DFT consultation on increase of 250W limit to 500W

I live in the Alps and regularly ride up and down many of the local ones on my bike which is compliant with current UK law. I don't have so far to go to be in Italy and even less to be in Germany, if I was to take the train to Italy then ride back home I would probably need 2 charges, I can get...

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

They have used them to test for dongles on mid drive bikes, one weekend they stopped loads of bikes on one of the major cycle routes. The pictures I saw had 3 police, one on the bike and one each side steadying it.

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

Yes they carry them in some police cars, probably like traffic cars in UK.

Suggestion that delivery companies should check their riders bikes are legal !!!!!!

Police over here have a simple pair of rollers which they can use to measure speed, simple but effective. They are mainly used to find tuned Mopeds rather than ebikes but could be used if required.

    Second Hand Electric Bikes

I managed to get half of what I paid for my Haibike back after having it for 5 years and many thousands of kilometers. The second hand (and ex hire) ebike market in Austria is very buoyant, most bikes here are crank drive.
