Sorry if this has been answered already and I've missed it, but can someone explain the difference between Mercury and Mars? Are these both current/new product release with different features/specs, or is Mercury the replacement for Mars?

Urgent Help re electric bike law.

Ah. That does change things a bit..they could technically sue you.. but if it was a private sale, you could plead ignorance and they would have to demonstrate that you most likely knew it was not legal and wilfully misled them into buying into, which could be difficult.. I think in a private...

Can someone explain how a 350W motor can be limited to 250W?

I've tried to understand this too. It is really the controller which determines the legality of the motor power output? You see controllers rated at 250W and I assume that means the controller is configured to limit power output to the motor as well as speed? Yet it's common knowledge as stated...

    Rear wheel puncture

Good points.. unless you're doing it for environmental reasons then or only using it for very short distance, I guess it makes sense to go for petrol when you start thinking about longer term running costs and maintenance.

Just the job for getting the darts team home from the pub...

How sweet! I remember seeing a video on YouTube of a bike in Holland which was electric and had a trailer with two adorable little girls in it.

No offence taken I hope Synthman from my posts, I forgot you own one of these e-bikes. It's interesting the police haven't stopped you.. I don't know your age, but maybe people who are older and look like responsible cyclists are less likely to be stopped. The other day I was coming back from...

CycleCharge Project - Announcements & Discussions

Thanks to everyone for a great first year for CycleCharge Lynda is away for Christmas in Spain so probably won't be online much (so is my brother, alright for some!)..anyway I'd like to take the opportunity to raise a glass and say thank you from both of us to everyone who has given generously...

Outeredge Bag Just thought I'd share a couple of photos of this Outeredge bag... it's so neat and cleverly designed.. it's like a bag within a bag. When folded down it's like a small hand case and you can actually use it to store things in... to make it into a bike bag you just unzip the front...

    Night-time Riding

There's been a lot of speculation that we're in for a bitterly cold white christmas and then heavy snow in January.. I can't see it myself, it's been rather mild for the time of the year.. plenty of sunny days still.. just a lot of rain is all!

    Rear wheel puncture

Aren't you going to go for an electric scooter then Synthman? I guess petrol is a lot cheaper to buy than electric ones and more practical for the distances?

That picture above posted by muckymits is exactly the model I was going to buy 3 years ago..they used to be all over eBay and there were importers with fancy sites selling them for around £500. I'm so glad I didn't buy one now and listened to the advice I originally came here for which advised...

    Night-time Riding

I was once riding home and a gang of hooligans decide it might be fun to block the road and stop me.. until that is they encountered the "25mph fist". Basically held my fist out straight and put the throttle on and called the nearest ones bluff.. its you or me son! He decided it wise to step aside.

Urgent Help re electric bike law.

It seems as I figured then, that basically everything is illegal and we're just fortunate that the police and authorities turn a blind eye as you say...we should consider e-bikes a priviledge and not push our luck... the key thing is not to draw attention to yourself from the police...if you do...

    Night-time Riding

I enjoy riding at night too, particularly in the autumn when it's getting dark a bit earlier but not freezing cold. There's something magical about riding electric at night and just cruising around :D And if you bump into hooligans lurking around at night, you always feel safe on an electric...

    Any one bought this kit?

I've seen this kit sold on another site. 1000W eh, do you wanna ride that on roads? I think this might attract the attention of the boys in blue unless you restricted the speed.

Urgent Help re electric bike law.

If the bike had a 250W rated motor, functional pedals, and was limited to 15.5mph, then regardless of what it looked like..it SHOULD pass the EN guidelines for being an electric bicycle. If it's looking like a moped and not a bicycle, then probably the police are confused and want to satisify...

Urgent Help re electric bike law.

Even if you sold them a bike that was not road legal, I don't think they have any legal recourse against you, unless you advertised it was road legal or told them it was.. if it's not, but they assumed it was, they should have asked or checked.. they can't sue you, because you might have no clue...
