    First e-bike Raleigh or Carrera

The current crossfire is better than the previous model. It now has a complete Suntour powertrain with no mixing and matching of components and appears more reliable. Battery capacity is decent too. Whether its a nice bike to ride dynamically is another matter. Not my cup of tea to ride, but...

The development of the brand new 2020 Wispers... in Pictures!

Will you be offering other fork options? To put it politiely, I find the XCM slightly inadequate.

    Wanted Buy ebike

Ive been ridning 55 years and never found a maintenance free bike! Do you perhaps mean a bike that is in good order and requires no work at the time of sale? Remember as well to obtain documents with the bike that describe the entire bike. If any major component is swapped for new, be it frame...

Help! Advice on a readybuilt or bike to convert for a heavy person (20 stone)?

136kg/300lbs is well North of 20 stones, so the OPs chum will be fine.

Torque v cadence - which has more efficient battery usage (my wife's battery ran out, mine did not...)?

Torque sensor is more economical in most scenarios - it provides power in proportion(ish) with the effort the rider themselves inputs, instead of simply providing power because the chainset is turning. The maths are quite simple.

Help! Advice on a readybuilt or bike to convert for a heavy person (20 stone)?

I'm a feeble lightweight at 19 stone (I'm 6'5") and have never had a problem with any bike, electric or regular. Normal ebikes work just fine for me - hills no problem at all. Most are somewhere in the 120-140kg payload range, so should be fine. Might I ask, is there any reason for desiring a...

What determines and assists hill climbing capacity?

Absolutely. You need to remember as well, that some of my extra weight is additional muscle mass (I'm not a fattie, just a normal bloke scaled up by 25%) , so some of that extra mass is earning its keep in terms of power. Nevertheless, a 60NM motor gets me up hills with relative ease that I...

What determines and assists hill climbing capacity?

Motor torque. Gearing. The strength in your legs. The meatiest motors at legal power outputs are in the 50-60NM range. 60NM is sufficient to haul my 19 stone (I'm 6'5" mesomorph, not a Lard-O) up the steepest inclines, albeit I'm an experienced cyclist with good legs and lungs who is able to...

    Bosch motor help advice

And to think, there are pundits on here telling folk to buy Bosch instead of Suntour as if it's some kind of mystical never-breakdown panacea! I got a new bike. Mine went faulty within a couple of days, and the shop consulting with Bosch didn't fix it. In the end I told them to give me a new...

    Inner tube

You say that, but I once had a load of thorns go through a Continental kevlar belted tyre. Luckily the slime tube held and did not deflate, and when arrived Home I removed the tube I had to peel it off of the inside of the tyre where about 2 dozen thorns had pierced it and were gripping the...

    New ebike kit recommendations?

    Inner tube

I used to use them on my commuter bike, back when I had an office to commute to. They do deaden the ride a bit and take the edge off the acceleration, likely not an issue on a pedelec. However, in my experience I found them more reliable than armoured tyres and could pick up multiple puctures...

    Grease for battery connections?

The issue is that standard battery terminal or dielectric grease is for static terminals. Our bikes have terminals that move every time we detach or refit them, and that provides a mechanical means by which the grease can work it's way inside the terminal recesses on the battery. On a static...

    Grease for battery connections?

Personally, I wouldn't use anything as you don't want grease getting inside the terminal recesses on the battery where they will attract dirt, grunge up, and start to form an intermittent connection. I keep my terminals clean, and every time I clean the bike I give them a spray of ACF50 to...

    Battery care?

Good advice. And every 30 or so charge cycles discharge it fully (as above, the BMS won't allow it to totally empty itself, and thus risk damage) and recharge it to 100% again.

Would it be hard to ride my e-bike while wearing filtered earplugs? Is it legal?

It's not confusing - show me legislation that specifically outlaws the wearing or headphones while driving or cycling. They can't show me, because there is no such legislation. Ergo, it is not unlawful.
