£1000 cycle 2 work halfords crappy voucher

Rubbish. I've had more trouble with Bosch (quite a bit) than my SiL has had with Suntour (none at all). The current high output Suntour motor in Carreras is 60NM, and the motor itself is rarely problematic. That said, the Vulcan itself isn't the nicest bike, let down by horrible forks.

    Battery charge cycles

Much of my mileage is work related and gets written off against tax. I'd love an electric car, but when suddenly work requires me to be in Turin in 18 hours time and there is no flight available within that window then the only option is to get in the car. An electric car wouldn't get me to...

Would it be hard to ride my e-bike while wearing filtered earplugs? Is it legal?

Ah, RoSPA, famous for not being solicitors, and therefore unqualified to give legal advice.

CrossCountry / XC with rear suspension

Sorry, I'm a little confused - cross country, or XC, is a racing discipline, and the requirements for an effective XC machine are rather at odds with a gravel bikes, where the emphasis is more on stability. You're saying you have always set up your Ferrari to behave like a Land Rover. Head...

£1000 cycle 2 work halfords crappy voucher

If you're definitely saddled with Hellfrauds, then I can heartily recommend the Subway Electric, though you'll have to chuck an extra 99 quid in the pot yourself - you can add as much as you like yourself. Don't count on sales reductions of the magnitude we used to see at Halfords - retailers...

A bit like the way the petrol pumps cut out when the tank of my 5 litre Range Rover is brimmed :D

Would it be hard to ride my e-bike while wearing filtered earplugs? Is it legal?

It is no offence whatsoever. I'm deaf in one ear (Injury acquired in Iraq) and the DVLA have applied no restrictions to my licence. Completely deaf people are the same - safe and legal to drive or cycle. In a bicycle the effectiveness of your hearing degrades quite quickly as you move into...

    Petrol driven bike!

Almost all are illegal, but people have been known to jump through the hoops and register them. http://www.users.globalnet.co.uk/~pattle/nacc/arc0497.htm At a car show some years back I saw a Raleigh Chopper that had been thus adapted, and that was all registered and plated.

    Are converted bikes legal?

As a technical exercise it's not terribly difficult to do. However, unless someone has been badly hurt or killed then I doubt they'd go to the effort and expense. Or they could just email the manufacturer of the motor and ask them, which costs nothing.

Did you keep the carrera controller, or did you switch to a different one?

Ebike still legal if I run 36V motor at 48V and limit speed to 15mph?

A good friend of mine is head of roads policing for our county. He tells me that any switch, setting, menu, dongle, etc, that allows the rider to readily deviate from legal specs instantly makes in unlawful. If you as a rider can "readily " (ie, without tools and dismantling the thing...

I could have linked to some scientific papers on the matter, but in reality the article is all an end user really needs to know.

    Help!! First ebike!!

We can all cite examples of ebikes from all makes that have been iffy. My first Trek had a persistent fault where it would switch on but wouldn't provide any assistance and ended up with the entire bike being replaced (the replacement has been fine) - so much for an all Bosch powertrain...

    Help!! First ebike!!

I mentioned the Carrera Subway electric above. Very nice 6061 frame. Their frames used to be made by Merida, although I'm not sure who does them now. Either way, a proper spec material and welded very cleanly. 4130 CroMo fork. Very respectable grade of material, in the past often used in...

    Help! Speed limit unlock !!!

Have you thought of simply pedalling a bit faster? If expending effort is not your thing, then speed pedelecs and electric mopeds are freely available and should have perhaps been your first port of call... https://urbanebikes.com/collections/speed-pedelec/s-pedelec Why waste time, effort...

by "ideal conditions" they actually mean "down a 125 miles long steep hill". Gates belt is nice, lack of gearing a massive handicap.

    Help!! First ebike!!

If you're not taking it properly off road, don't bother with anything either suspension. At this price point its invariable dire with poor spring rates and non existent damping, and you're lugging round d an extra kilo or so of extra mass for no gain. Something like the current version of the...

    ELECTRIC CARRERA VENGEANCE PROBLEM

The controller is the electronic brain, mounted on Carrera bikes either in the base of the battery holder, or latterly underneath the down tube but forward of the bottom bracket. The bit on the handlebars is the display panel. The HESC torque sensing cranks are a little rattlly and noisy at...

    ELECTRIC CARRERA VENGEANCE PROBLEM

You can't make assumptions about what will or won't be damaged. You've eliminated the probable, therefore whatever remains, not matter how implausible, must be at fault. Either substitute the cables one by one, or test them all for both continuity and resistance.
