    Dumb pedestrian

Yes, of course, all road users should be aware of other road users and pedestrians. However, I disagree that part of the blame would be at the door of the cyclist. The new rules don't absolve pedestrians of any responsibility for their or anyone else's safety. It could be argued that by...

    Dumb pedestrian

No you shouldn’t have stopped if his foot hit the road. According to the new rules the hierarchy only applies where you are turning into a side road or approaching a junction from a side road. You were travelling straight along the road so the pedestrian has no priority over traffic on that road...

    Advice for new bike lock.

I bought two, one each for my and my wife’s new bikes. I bought the Kryptonite frame lock with plugin cable so not only does it lock the rear wheel but you can attach it to a bike rack or post so it can‘t easily be carried away. You can get plugin chains as well but the cables are lighter to...

    Cube Kathmandu Equivalents

You're right about the battery weights, my 625wH battery is a bit of a lump. Having had the bike for a few months now I haven't been on a ride that has got it below 80% charge left so could have probably done with a smaller battery. I have stopped charging for every ride and am now doing 3 rides...

    Cube Kathmandu Equivalents

My main deciding factors were: Range of gears (I still want to ride without motor assistance) Bosch motor (plenty of dealers and service centres) Value for money (Cube seem to give a lot more for your money than other brands).

    Cube Kathmandu Equivalents

I would say the Giant Anytour, Specialized Turbo Vado, Haibike Trekking or Kalkhoff Endeavour 7.B. Those were the ones I was looking at before I chose the Kathmandu.

    Highway code changes

I was out for a ride yesterday with a couple of friends and came to a light controlled pedestrian/cycle crossing. Before I pressed the button a car from the right stopped even though the lights were green for him. I looked to my left and a car approaching from that way stopped as well. What to...

    Bafang/Bosch PAS

Absolutely. I have the Nyon so could adjust the modes but I don't see any reason to make any adjustments, the four modes I have are more than I need. I mainly ride with PAS off then when I'm tired towards the end of a ride and have a hill I switch it to Eco. Very occasionally, for a long, steep...

    Bafang/Bosch PAS

Bosch power modes are only configurable via an app if you have the Nyon display or the Bosch Smart System.

Rear lights: which is best, continuous or flashing?

Much like with cars and motorcycles, I think having lights on during the day is just as important as at night. They help draw attention to you and stop you blending into your surroundings. I use one flashing and one steady on the rear at night. During daylight I use the flashing one. On the...

    Bosch Nyon '21 Q/A & Top Tips

The old Nyon used the same mount as the Intuvia so could be easily swapped without the need for re-cabling but the new Nyon 2 has a different mount and different connector at the mount end so it isn’t even a case of swapping the mounts, the cable to the motor has to be replaced.

Cube Kathmandu Hybrid Pro (2022) Trapeze

I like the khaki/desert or whatever colour it is. Most bikes are grey or black so I think it makes a nice difference. My wife is quite indifferent to the colour. I had the 200 mile service recently and they must have applied an update to the motor. It now shows eMTB on the display in place of...

Has anyone tried Immobibike or Bikeregister?

Yes, I did think that. I can't image scanning bikes is top of their list. I prefer the stencil approach in as much as the ID is visible and obvious so more chance of going to a website and entering the code. Also, if somebody is buying off a marketplace it gives them something to check, although...

Has anyone tried Immobibike or Bikeregister?

Apologies and thanks for the correction, I got the two the wrong way round, Bikeregister uses the stencil system and Immobibike the chip system.

Has anyone tried Immobibike or Bikeregister?

I was thinking of registering both my wife’s and my bikes to help identify if stolen. It seems the two main ones are Immobibike and Bikeregister, both of which have a database that the police use if they find any bikes. Bikeregister uses a stencil system to mark the bike somewhere on the frame...

Why did Cube change the pannier rack on the latest Kathmandu?

I really don't understand why they did that. The racks on the 2020 models look far more practical. Thanks for the advice, I'll look into that. I quite fancy a new career although it's probably a bit late in life for me! ;)

Why did Cube change the pannier rack on the latest Kathmandu?

I bought a Cube Kathmandu Pro 625 recently and bought a Cube Acid rear trunk bag plus a pair of Vaude Aqua panniers. I was disappointed to find that I can’t have the trunk bag and panniers fitted at the same time. The clips on the panniers prevent the trunk bag from clipping onto the rack. I...

    Halfords electric scooters.

I didn’t see that episode. It wasn’t about an e-scooter zooming through the park and hitting a pedestrian who ended up in intensive care was it? I see lots of them about. I had one pass me on my bike the other day. I was doing 20mph so would guess he was going about 25mph. I wouldn’t have one...
