Mid-drive chain and drive train wear measurements

Like Nigelbb I used grease on my motorbike chain. Duckhams chain grease (looked like wax) the instructions were to soak in paraffin to clean the chain then when drained to place on the wax, heat on the stove until melted, remove from heat and hang it up to drip dry. Did that at service intervals...

Cheap but good torque wrench recommendation(s)?

For accessibility, I might just buy this cheapo: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Draper-30357-Square-Drive-22-1-154-9lb-ft/dp/B0001K9S52 No good for a bike. At 30Nm the lowest torque setting is way too much for a lot of bike fixings.

Hi and my first ebike 50+

On your quality of ebikes concern, 'Which' tested folding ebikes last October and the Wisper 806SE scored 63%, the Raleigh Evo scored 64%. So Wisper appears on par with Raleigh. The Raleigh electrics are proprietary as sjpt pointed out thus the Wisper would be easier to repair when out of...

I think I may have talked myself out of buying an electric bike………for now anyway.

Hi AMcG I’m another who returned to cycling after trying an Ebike. Have you cocidered secondhand? The Wisper 806SE folder can take 115Kg but sadly is £1500, but you occasionally find them on eBay within your budget. They have a good reputation on this forum but of course you need to be careful...

Help! Raleigh Motus cutting out problem. Please help.

Not sure of the age of your bike. While the Raleigh warranty if only one year the Bosch warranty will be for two years. If that’s the case take it back to your dealer for warranty repair as it’s the Bosch part that’s playing up.

Are these cells genuine or is the wrapper a clue?

Good afternoon. Sorry I known next to nothing about ebike battery cells so can't answer your question. I was just wondering though, if the cells are are placed nose to tail (+ve to -ve ) to add up to 36V then alternative cells would be the opposite way around. Might that explain their writing...

    Volt 4 Year Battery

That’s interesting as the Volt website is still taking orders for the standard size MetroLS battery, (that’s not to suggest you need a new one when your old one is still giving good service).

    Looking to buy E-bike

Hi I have a Raleigh Motus GT step-through which I’ve been very pleased with. I was swayed towards the Motus because my brother in law has one and let me try it out, so when a local Raleigh dealer had a sale in January '20 I was able to get a good deal. Previously I had found some of the local...

    Cycling. Health. Covid. Diet.

Interesting articles. The fruit, veg and nuts/seeds recommendations pop up regularly for many different health reasons. Good job they taste good and are easily incorporated into our diets.

    Electric bike Cost

So my 14 1/2 year old car is getting greener and cheaper per mile each year I keep it. I found it interesting to compare car with ebike costs. The fact that my car looks so cheap is due to a number of things. Economy of scale, we have a lot more cars than bikes. My car is old, was bought...

    Electric bike Cost

I’d not stopped to think about this before but my ebike costs more per mile than my car. I calculate my car has cost me 39.8p/mile over 11 years and 90000 miles. My ebike cost £2250 when new. I’m only a leisure cyclist so average 550 miles a year. Without taking into account battery, charging...

    Bicycles to pay road tax

I understand that cyclist are healthier, live longer and use the NHS less than non-cyclists. So the more people cycle the better. Would any sane government wish to tax us back to ill health and clogging up the health service?

    D lock storage.

You can buy D-locks complete with a bracket to fit onto the bike that you clip the lock into. The brackets come in various sizes, I have an Abus D-lock with a bracket that I’ve secured to one of the seat stays. My sister has another make, not sure which, with a bracket secured to the down tube...

    looking for electric folder.

If you have access to 'Which' they tested folding ebike in September 21 and in December 19. The Brompton came top in both tests. Which test have come in for some criticism on Pedelecs but of course not everybody’s criteria will be the same as Which's or yours. You may be able to get access to...

In my 60s and not ridden for decades

Just noticed there is a Woosh Rambletta secondhand in the For Sale section of this forum. At £500 it might be just what you’re looking for. It’s in Sheffield but being a folder you could even collect it by train. Don’t know the seller but may be worth checking out.

e-Bike on a bike rack. With or without the battery?

I’ve always removed the batteries when using my rack. I assumed jostling of the batteries locating points would be greater than normal when left on the frame. Have driven on rainy days without problem. Seeings JP's cling film suggestion though I might protect the exposed terminals if likely to rain.
