It has to be able to do 20km an hour without pedalling and the brakes have to be better... Those are just two off the top of my head, that you can't do on a dongled stock Ebike.

Honestly, I hope not. Martin has a great deal of knowledge and is a big player in the uk Ebike market. I hope he'd see that it's for the best and put his efforts into selling legal and useable bikes now to his customers.

Sorry only just see this, I'm afraid you a missing a key point. Altering a normal Ebike by removing the limit doesn't make it an spedelec. What you have a bicycle without a speed restricted motor, this is technically and importantly different to a vehicle designed, built and sold as an spedelec.

Selling a Ebike with a dongle on it breaks trading standards laws because it removes the CE certificate and its classification as a bicycle... So it is illegal! Which is why we think the prestige brands shouldn't be supporting it. Also if you'd read my letter you'll see that my primary concern...

All this post does is show how little you understand the issues involved. You can roll out of a dealership in a 200mph car, and as long as you've taxed it and insured if you can legally use it anywhere. If you buy a dongled Ebike as soon as you roll out of the dealership you are breaking...

None of those 3 options as 1 and 2 aren't possible and 3 isn't acceptable or even true. The selling of dongles isn't illegal and we can't and don't expert that to stop. What we are looking for is for the brands of bike that sell proper offroad mountain bikes, ie KTM, Cube, Scott, Trek, Haibike...
