I think it was probably just the gears not changing, I have an 8-speed nexus, and a slight pause allows a change, actually it just needs a very slight lift of pressure. The Bosch needs a longer full pause to change. I think I would get used to slower gear changes. Ah, after I'd posted I...

Wasn't the Race the 11-speed Alfine one? I didn't pay too much attention once I'd realised it would be difficult to fit mudguards to one. Macina 29"

That caught me out too, but I had no trouble at all climbing the steeper road to Wetton at the next road crossing south on the trail. I even stopped to chat to a bloke pushing his mountain bike up the hill, and just set off again and was quickly back up through the gears going up. Electric...

Stunning sunny weather here in the north Peak District this morning, lets hope the Manifold Trail is just the same. Have a good day everyone.

    Puncture Resistant - Puncture Proof

I've got these, and when my cycling companions have all suffered punctures from thorns I've got away with it, perhaps I've just been lucky.

    Redbridge....some further thoughts...

Given how busy that little road is I'd say you have no chance of getting permission to ride bikes up and down there.

I'm not a beer drinker, however friends tell me you can't get good beer in the south, but you can in the north midlands ;)

It's on Saturday, rain is forecast for later that day, but you never know it could be rather nice, certainly warmer.

That's a good question, I wouldn't like to see bikes going faster than good club cyclists with unfit people riding them, a 20 mph limit would probably suit me perfectly, and the Bosch in its lowest setting may do me, although I've yet to try one.

That is exactly what I want from an ebike. Go faster but with less effort. Edit, Isn't that why everyone buys an ebike

I haven't yet. The speed limit is the biggest factor for me not buying a bike. I'd like someone to programme a Bosch motor for 20" wheels but actually have it on 27" wheels (700c or 26") that should give exactly what I want. The faster more powerful 350 watt Bosch (28 mph) is the other option...

Gear options for a crank bike - what's the mose versatile or robust.

Thanks for that, it highlights a bugbear I have with my 8-speed hub, the big gap when dropping from 6th to 5th, I'll try and get an 11-speed hub next I think.

You're the same as me I believe, what I need is a bike that provides some assistance at whatever speed I'm riding, I don't want or need much help, but I'd like it at any speed.
