    Brexit, for once some facts.

Some people really don't seem to realise that the U in all these means pretty much the same thing.... UK , USA, EU.

    ebike law changes coming....

As I've said many times... don't shoot the messenger. You're not picking holes in my policy, or my law. I'm just telling you what is being imposed on the motor brands.

    ebike law changes coming....

Strange that the Bosch guys disagree with you... We'll see who is right. I'm sure. But this is currently a fact according to people who know more about Bosch than you or I. "In the case of Bosch, tuning detection is already on the new 2018 Active motor"

    ebike law changes coming....

Really David? Its not an official memo its an email, you might be shocked to read that we communicate with our suppliers around the world in quite an information manner. The email also included......... "Like I said, this is my understanding of what I was told today, and my boss has since...

    ebike law changes coming....

So you think its not true because the small UK brands don't know about it yet? I agree, the bit about the knowing the speed of the bike is going to be tricky to prove its been tampered with. However I'll say this again, as I now have it in writing. "All ebikes sold in Europe from 2019 must...

    ebike law changes coming....

Obviously the increase in speed limit of the assistance will require a law change. But the changes to the motors to detect the manipulation is coming. I had this email to confirm it over the weekend. "All ebikes sold in Europe from 2019 must have tuning detection built into the drive unit...

    ebike law changes coming....

Just a clear difference .... changing none of those things breaks the law does it? and there is no requirement by national governments to stop them doing it. The clear difference in this case is that the motor brands can stop it, they just don't have the current commercial need to do it...

    ebike law changes coming....

My source is someone at Bosch... Read isn't that what you like.

    ebike law changes coming....

true, but the bit about stopping tuning isn't changing the law, its actually enforcing the current one. But yes, I take your point about the speed limit change, it would need the UK to change its law to reflect the motors being produced if indeed the speed limit suggested by the EU is offered.

    ebike law changes coming....

All true of course... but you aren't going to find Bosch, Shimano, Brose etc etc, making motors for UK specific market. We'll be forced to follow like we were with the 250w upgrade. Also its coming 2019, when even by anyones estimates we'll still be very much inside the EU. So I suspect we'll...

    ebike law changes coming....

Well yes, and no.... Even if we do actually leave, this EU directive / law will (like pretty much all of them) still have a strong influence. The UK government have already said they'll just copy and paste the EU laws. Then if we don't just copy and paste them we're going to have to copy...

    ebike law changes coming....

I'm sure it'd just be a software update.

    ebike law changes coming....

Its hard to enforce something, when bikes aren't legally required to have a method of checking your speed.

    ebike law changes coming....

We'll surely if they increase the speed as pretty much everyone has been requesting, then they also remove the need to tune don't they?

    ebike law changes coming....

Just had a phone call with direct news from Germany about what is coming. (note Germany, not Austria - I've not heard about this from KTM). This is a very very very credible source. This might not be 100% correct, but you'll get the gist I hope of the new laws. Basically "tuning motors" is...

Bosch CX seems to be flawed?

Good customer service? Its a massive tax right off?? They give the used motors to VW to put in their new car wiper motors?? Who knows, but all I'm saying its, its "just" a bottom bracket bearing, I replace them every 6 months on my normal bike. The fact its electric doesn't mean they can...

Bosch CX seems to be flawed?

Bosch are currently giving out replacement motors when the bottom bracket bearing wears out. Outside the warrarnty all you have to do is replace the bottom bracket bearing yourself if it wears out, like you have to on a normal bike. If you don't feel comfortable doing it any decent eBike...

    Purchased a 2018 Cube Reaction Race 500

Well no, it wouldn't be a minor issue. You'd have built a motorbike and be riding it illegally, un insured with no tax or insurance. But yes the chances of getting caught are slim, but cyclists are involved in accidents all the time. At some point one will involve an illegally modified eBike...
