Which conversion kit for a touring bike?

For reference a Panda Pro 250W front hub kit and a 10.4Ah bottle battery have added 8 kg to my bike. I got the kit when it was on offer, and the battery from Germany, so the total spend was under £400. I'm not saying that that particular kit would work out best for you, but it maybe gives an...

Making a 1000W, 48V conversion kit Road Legal (temporarily!)

As above - the law states that the motor must be rated for 250W (continuous) or less. Obviously most motors sold as 250W will happily run at more than that, but it's what the manufacturer declares it as that matters. You could try putting a '250W' sticker on it I guess ;)

Suaoki 800A Peak Car Jump Starter 20000mAh

I've jump started my car (3.0 litre flat six Subaru) from a 4S 3000mAh LiPo RC pack. Obviously there was still some charge left in the lead acid battery, but not enough to turn the engine over on its own. You really can pull massive current - around 130C or more from modern LiPo packs for short...

    !

Although the manual says there are only 8 valid settings (0-7) for C1, mine only works on setting 8 - so you might as well try all the values if it doesn't work on the one you expect it to.

    Bafang crank engagement broken

I sometimes end up drilling a small hole and screwing a self tapping screw into those sort of seals if they're stuck. Then you can get pliers under the head of the screw to pull with more force.

    Tour de France today

I generally watch the highlights show at 7pm, but yesterday I sat down at 12:00 to have some lunch and thought I'd watch the race live for 20 minutes or so. At 4pm I realised I'd been so hooked on the racing that I'd lost a quarter of my weekend! Definitely on of the most absorbing stages for a...

    !

P3 enables PAS, and C1 sets the type and number of magnets (usually 7 for 12 magnet, but for some reason mine needed C1=8). However it seems odd that you have the coloured IP65 connectors for brake levers, throttle, display etc but not for the PAS sensor (usually a 15cm long cable with three...

    Panda Pro/Orbit Orion Conversion

Yes, I didn't think the controller box looked that waterproof -particularly as the only place I could fit it on my wife's bike was on the back of the upright, facing the tyre. But she doesn't intend on riding in the rain so it'll do for now. However the cables do actually fit in the cutouts (if...

Most powerful eBike for long uphill journeys?

It is in reality a little more complex than that with the brushless motors that we tend to use on bikes, but in essence you do get the same limiting effect on maximum speed due to back emf. d8veh's explanation is spot on for brushed motors though, and the general idea still applies to brushless...

    Cycling Undercrackers

I wouldn't like to think what'd happen if you came to a sudden stop and slid off the seat whilst on one of those saddles

    kT-LCD 3 settings help please

As it says in the manual: it's the number of motor magnet poles multiplied by the reduction ratio. Obviously you need to find those figures from the manufacturer's data for the motor which can take some searching.

Bib shorts are great for those of us with a front overhang, which tends to make cycling jerseys ride up. But you do most definitely need to wear a jersey or shirt over the top...

1st ebike conversion road bike or MTB with skinny tires? which starter for 20 mile commute each way

Yes - sorry, I should have said that I do have brake switches, and that is the easiest way to turn cruise off (or press any button on the LCD). I don't have a connector for a cruise switch, so hold the down arrow whilst pedaling to turn it on. That's with it enabled via C9. Probably best not to...

1st ebike conversion road bike or MTB with skinny tires? which starter for 20 mile commute each way

You can get sensors with magnets that go on your brake levers to operate the cutoff if you have hydraulic brakes or integrated gear levers. But as d8veh says - the KT controllers cut the power very quickly when you stop pedaling. Although I'm new to pedelecs - I fitted a Panda 250W front hub...

    Cycling Undercrackers

I tend to go for a pair of cheap cycling underpants from Aldi for the commute - they're only lightly padded so you can wear them for a while off the bike without feeling odd. Not sure I'd want to wear them all day though, but they're fine for sitting on the train and the walk into the office...

    Home built or factory finish...

The hardest part about fitting a kit is working out where to put things on the frame and having enough cable ties. Some hub kits come with a tyre and inner tube already fitted to the wheel, so that even removes the need to swap yours over. Plenty of guidance online - and loads of friendly people...

    Friction drive?

Friction drives have pretty much fallen out of favour now that hub motors are cheap and reliable, way more powerful and don't have the downsides of friction (tyre wear, slip etc). But yes, it can be done if you really want to.

Front hub works in walk mode, not with PAS.

All sorted :) With the KT-LCD3 display I can adjust the C settings on my Kunteng controller. C1 was set to 7, which according to the manual seems to be correct for a 12 magnet PAS sensor. I set it to 8 and it now responds to the pedal rotation. Oddly though, 8 isn't listed as a valid value in...

    This seems a good idea

The bike will be lighter, but the backpack will be heavier by the same amount so nothing gained or lost in terms of weight that you've got to propel...
