This seems a good idea

That's very interesting. I like the concept, but that article leaves a lot of things unanswered, so I have reservations.

Before anybody gets too excited, we can't have it as a speed pedelec in the UK, so 15mph would be a complete waste of time. You'd be better off getting a normal road bike, which would be a lot cheaper. If you need more assistance, down-gear it a bit.

It looks like a 90 deg crank-drive like the Tonaro. The 90 deg gearboxes can be a bit noisy.

They say a weight of 12.5kg. Is that with or without the motor and battery installed?

Does anybody really want a removable motor? If you bought a separate road bike for when you didn't need/want a motor, it would be a lot lighter and more efficient. I'm not sure that roadies would want to compromise on that.

As a speed pedelec, it looks like a desirable bike, but I can't see that anybody would want the removable motor, especially when you see the touring version with all that luggage. What are you going to do - take the motor out and put it in the saddle-bag while you pedal unassisted?

When I first saw it, I got quite excited, but the more I think about it, the more convinced I become to keep my 8kg road bike for exercise and my electric MTB for shopping and general getting about.

If the battery runs out and and you have a back pack with you then it will make the bike much lighter to pedal home with the battery/motor removed and sowed in the rucksack!
The bike will be lighter, but the backpack will be heavier by the same amount so nothing gained or lost in terms of weight that you've got to propel...

That's what I was thinking. I'm going to try that out. Next time I go out on my electric bike, I'll put the battery in my shopping bag, which will save about 3.5kg. I'll report back how it goes.
