Is It Safer Riding an Electric Bike?

I think legal 16 mph max assistance e-bikes are more dangerous than lighter none-electric bikes because in all instances other than uphill they're slower, it is hard work to make a draggy heavy e-bike go above the assisted 16 mph limit. Because of that the speed difference is greater, meaning...

    300 or 400w Bosch battery??

I've never got 35 miles from my 400 wh battery, even with considerable input from me. So at least go for the biggest battery.

Average age 55,imagine if the average age was 15!!!

I quite agree, they're the only segments I don't get KOM on, downhill ones. I'm not bad on some two lane ones. and there are a couple of short sharp climbs that some manage to sprint up, that I can't quite match, but I beat them on all the longer climbs.

    Average speed.

my average is 14 mph, but I do a lot of pottering with a 6 year old setting the pace. oh and 40,000 feet of climbing.

    Kudos Arriba 25MPH ;-)

I wish the lad who sold me his moped had told me that, he just said if you've got a car licence it's legal, he also said even though it would do 70 mph it was still legal because it said moped on the log book.

Funny you should say that, I have two mopeds, both now do about 70 mph ;) hmm there's a theme going on here........

Not everyone wants a high powered bike that gets you up hills like that and then cuts off the assistance at 15 mph. I want less help on the hill, but I want that lower level of help at whatever speed I'm riding. So that may be what an e-bike means to you, but don't assume that's what we all want.

    To flash or not flash?

That's a good point, mine aren't the super bright ones, but are still pointed down to light the road several feet in front. Some bike lights are extremely bright, annoying and in my opinion dangerous.

    To flash or not flash?

I've just fitted a replacement for a faulty rear light on my bike and I noted that it said it needed to be used in conjunction with a BS approved light, and went on to say LED lights should only be used for extra visibility and should not be in flashing mode when attached to your cycle as it is...

    Kalkhoff BS

Ah ha, so you spat your dummy out. Well lets just hope the Kalkhoff doesn't go wrong, which is highly likely given the poor bike preparation some customers have had with their Kalkhoff bought from 50 cycles.

    Kalkhoff BS

That hasn't answered my question? so the KTM had a noisy Bosch motor, so you bought a Kalkhoff with a Bosch motor and weren't in the least bit worried about having the same problem on the new bike.

    Kalkhoff BS

So you had a Bosch related fault on a KTM, but then bought another Bosch bike anyway, did you not worry that the same fault might occur on the new bike?
