there are two Daves, the original uses d8veh and there is another using D8veh. I assume you want the original.

Perhaps I shouldn't admit to this, (too late :) ) , but I was staring at your post for quite a while trying to spot the difference !

Yes, d8veh, the chap that's given me so much help with circuits and such...

There is also a D8ve which I suppose is an inevitable consequence of people's names commonly starting with the characters d, 8, v and e. Pretty soon someone will have to move on to de8vf if the trend continues.

I didn't realise my thread was going to trigger so many thoughts :)

My chosen user name is far more basic, I'm just a fat bloke that rides a bike and worries about how similar I am to my cartoon namesake....

I can understand using the number 8 in text speak, like 'L8', which obviously means 'late'........ But I don't understand why anyone would put an 8 in place of the letter A for the name Dave.

I don't get it.

Well my name is Dave and I go on a forum and choose Dave, however Dave has already beaten me to it, so I use D8ve because it looks like Dave :)

it's common amongs IT people to use numeral 3 or 8 or @ in place of 'a', 1 in place of 'i' or 'l' etc
easy to remember because a 3 resembles to a hand-written a, as in d3veh.
It's just an easy way to make memorable short passwords/nicknames - a bit more difficult to guess for the uninitiated.

If you use "Liverpool" as the basis for a password, then replace letters by numbers, including Roman numerals you can get things Like "L153rpool" "Liverp0ol" "Liverp0050" and many more such combinations etc
