    Best electric bike under £1000

This is a serious question - does that bike assist to 30 mph then?

Sorry Guys, this new format is not working for Kudos

Technical section, why not make it open to posts of a technical nature? I can't see the point of it if you can't actually post a technical question in there.

Sorry Guys, this new format is not working for Kudos

The cheaper Chinese bikes are OK for the average Joe who isn't a serious cyclist and hasn't experienced the superior feel of a better bike. As everyone keeps saying that will change in the future when the improvements to Chinese bikes filter through, no doubt the price difference will also be...

I wasn't the one to draw the comparison, as Dave has admitted Of course they're not the same price, and of course they're not comparable either.

I'm talking about now, not what will be in the future. Two comparable bikes? I think not.

That's why I said European designed. I realise a lot of what makes up a quality bike is manufactured in China. We all know that the quality of a wholly Chinese manufacturer and a none-Chinese company having parts made in China are not of equal quality.

Perhaps we should ask you if you think a cheap Chinese made and designed bike is good as a European designed bike featuring far better quality frame design materials and components?

Don't most people view the forum via the 'New Posts' tab ? that's the only way I view the forum, so I see or get the opportunity to see all posts. I guess that doesn't work for none-registered users though?

    Chain rings and crank drives

There is a gearbox yes, but they're only one speed, so just like a bike with one chain ring on the front. There has to be some loss involved as you say.

    Chain rings and crank drives

No the drive isn't direct on the newer Bosch, the drive is geared up before being transmitted to that granny ring looking front sprocket.

Can anyone recommend a good bike for hill climbing and distance

It's a good bike, certainly not perfect, but I got it at a very good price. I've done around 1800 miles I think. Here are some issues to take account. The rim brakes aren't that good in the rain, they cover the bike in black stuff, they wear the pads very quickly, and no doubt the rims too...

Can anyone recommend a good bike for hill climbing and distance

Can you really bring yourself to do this day in day out in all weathers? When you say 'swap your car for an ebike' is the car being sold? I'd forget the canal and take the direct route, have you a route map and profile you can share? a quick route from Halifax to Leeds has it at 17 miles and...

    how much faster by eBike.....???

That's amazing, I had no idea they were so powerful, you'd need a huge amount of battery power though. I'd still need to see someone do it to believe it.
