hmm.. shifting on a hill when motor runs through gears.. never thought about that.. could realy be tricky or a problem if the hill is steep and the load on the chain big.. unloading with motor maybe not that easy like when you pedal by yourself, where you can give it a "kick" and then reduce...

@rooel: maybe they even have not changed a thing with the motors, and just increased voltage.. we run such motors in rc-cars with 14,4Volt or 16,8Volt.. (of course there is a big difference: rc-car -> 5kg weight, BIKE: 100kg on the other hand: we use about 3,3Ah of capacity out of 16,8Volt...

Have not read the entiere Thread yet... but two things came to my mind after reading the first postings.. 1.) (light <-> 2 motors): instead of 2 motors, it should be possible to use one motor (brushless) and use the triangle and star-configuration (or do you call it asterix !?!) how ever...

.. and another variant is the one of the swiss fliers.. there not the rpm of the pedals is measured but the torque the driver applies to the pedals. assistance from the very first cm of driven distance..

finaly to the bad things: the plastic used inside the sparc is realy of cheap make !!! i realy don´t know why the sparc is that expensive (cheapest motors, cheap controller/electronics, poorest plastics) even on the cheapest rc-cars (more toys than cars) the plastic is more robust than...

now to the gearbox: no belt.. the teeth-count is: 9 teeth on the motor-pinions then 36 teeth the next pinion 9 teeth again (but bigger modul) then 37 teeth on this is another spur mounted (the black one) with the one-way inside and 34 teeth this is running in the hub (108 teeth) count...

for the electronics: does not look in any way "expensive" iam not a electronic expert.. but it seems not too use much expensive parts on it there are no parts on the backside of the platine when removing that platine, there would be far enoug place for a Kontronik BEAT 80-6-80...

the motors are non-serviceable (so you can´t open it, you can´t change the brushes), the motors have no ball-bearings ! only bush-bearings at least you can say: you can get this motors for ~10-15 US$ so no high-quality motors, just motors which run from band-conveyor in china every day...

now: flecc, you said something about a belt-drive ? there is no belt inside so no belt, no pulley.. all gear/pinion-driven ------------------------------- for the motors: some previouse pages ago I made the guesswork, that there are maybe a cheap silber-can-motors used...

@flecc: indeed, its realy nice here.. no big city in the surroundings (ok, one about 25km away with 4000 people living in it ;) the next bigger city with 200.000 people is nearly 100km away ).. even the airport (vienna, schwechat) is about 200km away, and there seems to be no flight-corridor...
