    Theresa May,the Dictator...

Hammond has a pretty good track record in the dark art of getting result.

    Theresa May,the Dictator...

well, at least they start dealing with it. The brexiters set out their stall first. It's now up to the city to reply. It could well be that the city don't worry too much about not having a passport, they can always set themselves up in Dublin, Luxembourg or Edinburg if they have not done so...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

the brexit vote has brought so far 10%-12% price increase on imported goods and increased profit for companies. Good for the business owners, not good for the voters.

good bike to convert with disc brakes under £400?

A switch to 24" would open up the possibility to use direct drive motors instead of geared hubs.

    Theresa May,the Dictator...

Unlike Mrs T., Mrs May does not enjoy a commanding majority in the House though. She can still be a great politician if she gets brexit right. Didn't you notice that the 'elite' is still very much in charge? funny that brexit propaganda was to sock it to the 'elite'.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

nobody knows what brexit means yet. However, it seems to me contradictory to stay in the Single Market with its myriad of regulations and open up novel ways to trade with the CW and other blocs. Brexit will have to be outside the Single Market with specific access to be negotiated as time goes...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I am only saying it's not far fetched. The EU started by saying they won't start negotiating before the big 50, no back room chitchat. But now they seem to come to term that it's useful to sound out where compromise may be possible.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

when you fly to one of the Canaries Islands or the Channel Islands, you effectively are in the future brexit UK. There is no freedom of movement of goods or people. The goods there adhere to EU regulations but the islanders decide on how much VAT to charge. The islanders decide who can work...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

the keyword is 'Single Market' - you only have to say that we don't want to join the Single Market but we want to trade on a wide range of goods and services. We want to control our borders but want to give 170,000 work visas a year to EU workers and students can study here visa free. There will...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

the exporting companies will have to follow EU laws to sell into the EU, the rest doesn't. For manufactured goods, I don't think payment into EU will be demanded. For passporting services, the EU would probably ask for a large quota of EU immigrants to be allowed in plus contribution to EU budget.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

it may not be far fetched. The devil is in the details. The EU can give the UK tariff free access for its manufactured goods as it has agreed with Canada with little or no concession from the UK. the passport for our financial services can be separately negotiated at a price.

    Theresa May,the Dictator...

May is a pragmatist. If she were to propose a discussion in parliament about article 50 before the government is ready to activate it, she would attract troubles from the brexiters for nothing.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

agreed. Brexit is a mainly an anti-establishment movement which concentrates on failures of governments in general. They don't think of the bigger pictures of what has been achieved: reduced pollution, renewable energy, education, health, consumer protection, scientific research, GMO, poverty...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

the effect on the economy is much more difficult to gauge by the general public because different sectors react differently to the brexit vote. The effect on the UK budget is much less felt thanks to the devaluation of the Pound. Net result: prices going up, businesses are doing same or slightly...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

May is more interested in getting a successful conference in a few weeks than negociation. Tough stance on immigration always gets the crowd pumped. it will be easy later to agree a quota with the EU. The crowd will have forgotten what they were cheering about.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

the structural deficit left by the financial crisis of 2008 was about 10%-12%. Without the EU migrants, all our big four banks would have gone belly up, our government would have to be bailed out by the IMF. Now deficit is down to EU average. All thanks to the 2-3 millions or so of immigrant...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

I think it does. Combined with offshoring, it enables billionaires like Branson to accumulate wealth much more quickly than otherwise and it's unfair to other American companies. Corporation tax could be considered as an advanced tax but is a tax nevertheless.

    Brexit, for once some facts.

during the campaign, the bbc staff had to concede a lot of wiggle room to the brexiters when reporting their spiel because there was not much credible independent factual research to cite. Take fisheries for example, Gove was loud about this, after brexit, the UK may control a bigger EEZ area...
