What's the best bike from Halfords or Decathlon?

The Ebco USR-55 has TransX headstock suspension. It gives about 30mm travel, which I'm finding perfectly fine on road and trails. Yes, a NEX fork with 63mm and lockout (as my MaxDrive bike has) might have been a little better, but my view is you can't be too choosy given it's a decent crank...

You must be looking at the wrong bike... £1099 (deduct your employer discount?)

What's the best bike from Halfords or Decathlon?

The Lombardo is the one with the Bafang MaxDrive - it's a crank-drive motor, whereas all your other choices seem to be rear-wheel driven. You might also want to consider the Ebco USR55 (hybrid) or Ebco MH-5 (MTB) which Halfords currently have at 30% off... if you're considering crank-driven...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

I could see the boffins at Bosch coming up with something the size and weight of the Fazua motor in just a couple of years - but maybe with 100Nm torque and weighing under 2kg that fitted into a pretty much standard size bike frame as the Fazua does. It's weight and size loss, with more...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

What part of "All the Bosch CEO is saying to me.." don't you understand? Loudspeakers are a mature (developed) market and the basic principles/materials haven't really changed in decades: eg: Monitor Audio designed the Apex system in 2010 - and they still keep making them without change - you...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

My new £1100 Ebco USR55 crank-drive hybrid e-bike against (nearly) £11,000 speakers in the playroom. Oh, and the Monitor Audio Apex speaker on the wall next to the home cinema screen come in at about another £2500 for the set (I'd forgotten about those). This isn't about "mine being bigger than...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

Has it? Haven't you seen the new, smaller, lighter hub-drive offerings from Bafang this year? Hub drives are certainly a more mature market. This is exactly why I don't do hi-fi forums anymore! High quality audio isn't about power, it's about refinement (note the sensitivity value), which may be...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

What is this... you show me yours and I'll show you mine? This is way off topic, but just to satisfy your curiosity (and, no, I'm not going to tell you about my £9000 hand-built amplifiers): https://www.audiothesis.com/product-page/usher-cp-8871#!

    Bosch CEO's prediction

Referencing the linked article "The main trend is integration and this has an impact on the size and weight of the component. We look for higher efficiency on power per kilogram too. With the new Performance CX we have a drive unit that is 25% lighter and smaller by 48% on the prior iteration."...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

What I said is that I personally wouldn't spend much over a grand on a crank-driven e-bike until the tech has been optimised/stabilised. By that I mean I wouldn't pay through the nose for anything at or near (what Bosch deem is) the cutting edge now given its' inherent obsolescence, and given...

    Bosch CEO's prediction

All the Bosch CEO is saying to me is that you'd be a fool to spend £2000/£3000/£4000+ on an electric bike now given their current drive systems are already obsolete and won't be worth a crap in a couple of years time once their much slimmer, lighter, more powerful motors/enhanced systems hit the...

    Hybrid tyre reccomendation

My first hybrid ebike, which I use for both road and trail, had 700x35 Kenda Kourier tyres, and I swore by them. Fast rolling centre tread, with nobbly bits to the side to add traction when on trails. Perfect. Until they started to wear out. As the tread flattened with mileage, punctures...

New ebike company in the UK......

I've seen that bike advertised but with a different name before... somewhere. I'd wish any entrepreneur/start-up all the very best of luck, but it brought to mind Edge e-bikes. They were advertising all over this site/forum with a comprehensive range of (some) quite stylish own-branded ebikes...

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

My first impressions regarding the build and quality (and the high standard of fitments such as the Shimano Deore gearing/shifter, Velo grips etc) were the same as yours. And after 5 days and a few more rides now I'm still very impressed, bar the initial reservations I've already noted above. I...

Renovating my EBCO - hit a snag. Help please !

The more recent TransX systems used by Ebco etc use a can-bus network to communicate. The motor, controller and display all need the same software version to work properly (each component logs which version it has separately). It may be that you'll need to take your bike into a dealer to update...

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

Ah yes! What a twat I am... I meant lightweight motors and thinner spokes (referencing your comment in another thread) not being helpful for us pie eaters (but that's still wrong isn't it... you're saying thinner spokes are stronger). Hopefully this weather will improve so I can get out and...

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

42Nm is impressive. But it can't really compare to my other crank-driven, 80Nm Bafang MaxDrive e-bike. Smaller, lightweight motors and 14g spokes are fine for some, but form should follow function. Those of us who still do eat pies need something more robust!

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

It appears that both the Volt Pulse and A300 have the drive motor in the rear hub; the USR-55 has the motor at the crank. Both drive methods have very different feels, strengths and weaknesses. The biggest advantage of the USR-55's crank/mid-drive method is that you can use a combination of...

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

This Ebco USR-55 is my third e-bike. Having had this e-bike for a day now, I'd say that if this were at the full price of £1599, I'd not be disappointed. The quality of finish and standard of fitments are excellent (other than it only has a 160mm front brake rotor rather than 180mm as you might...

    Heads-up! 2019 Ebco centre-drive e-bikes £1099 (£500 off).

I read that British Brand Ebco are re-doing their entire range of e-bikes for the 2020 season (from January) by a new, ex-Saracen designer. There seem to be a few deals on several models around of their older range (these two are from Halfords, but Rutland has offers too). I guess it's to make...
