    Hello

Whatever I ride - e-bike or normal bike - I always come back knackered, so I'd guess the energy expended is likely similar. I may not travel the same distance on my regular hybrid as my e-bike hybrid, but I'm still knackered. On one regular 38 mile route the e-bike is far quicker, but then I'm...

    Hello

Yes, but perhaps not as much as the numbers suggest. I have a 55Nm and an 80Nm mid-drive... the 55 is more than adequate for general use, but you do notice the extra torque of an 80Nm on a stiff hill, or getting up to speed on a tricky start. Woosh newly offer the Rambler - a Dutch style e-bike...

    Hello

Yes, we know that Neil. I'm just saying that (to me) a mid-drive has a more natural feel to it. Nothing more.

    Hello

Sorry for derailing your thread a little... it's just jolly banter. In all seriousness, it looks a nice bike with some nice kit... but £3000 is a lot to drop. The Yamaha motor is only 60Nm, which seems a little mediocre to me for that money. Maybe if you wait till the new 2021 models arrive...

    Hello

Complete rubbish! You need to try some modern stuff. ;)

That's the point exactly. Being mid-drive, you have gears to optimise cadence vs motor power. You'd need to be a complete twat to overheat/stress the motor using too low a gear.

    Hello

My first e-bike was a brand new 2016 Shengyi motored with KT LCD3 hub-drive e-bike. I rode it 16 miles. Then I bought a 2017 MaxDrive mid-drive. I saw the light and sold the hub-drive.

    Hello

Yes, I'd agree. But a hub-drive e-bike doesn't ride like a proper bike to me. If I wanted a pseudo moped, I'd just buy a moped. I want an e-bike that rides like a bike, just with some help. So I'll inevitably be stuck with a trellis... which is why I won't spend more than a grand on a current...

    Hello

Well yes. Who could disagree? But what exactly do you mean by "a long lived system"? Who would have thought that Panasonic, Kalkhoffs Daum/Impulse, TranzX, Conti, Dapu... and a good few other brands... would fall from favour so quickly? At the time (just a few years ago) these were all...

I don't think that's strictly true. The Americans (documented on the ES forum) soon worked out that the weak link in the early Bafang BBS's/MaxDrive controllers were the MOSFETS, and found a brand/type that proved very reliable. Bafang listened and took this on-board, and started using that...

    Wisper intermittent power issue

Sometimes it can be as simple as the battery contacts having spread a little and failing to make a really good contact; jiggling around on a ride can loose enough contact to break the power. Use a plastic/wood/insulated implement to squeeze the metal contacts back together so when the battery is...

    Power cutting out

The post comments the orange wires (connected to pins 2 and 5 of the charge connector) are for connecting to a battery analyser to report cycles and capacity. There's a button battery on the BMS keeping something alive even when disconnected - likely a memory chip. If the Germans didn't reset...

    Power cutting out

A really detailed/brilliant post on how to re-cell the OP's TranzX BL07 battery - complete with all internal pics (@vfr400 I think this is what I meant originally). Note the FREQUENTLY REPEATED instruction to reset the BMS after re-celling. I'd say it's worth a try? "On the PCB they are...

    Power cutting out

The comms chip problem manifests itself in different ways - you'd need to scour both German and US forums to see (where TranzX e-bike systems are far more common). Assuming you've double checked all your connectors/wiring etc (disconnecting the brake sensor usually makes the bike work!) there...

    Power cutting out

It might be if you're using the same TranzX battery BMS/controller from your rack-mounted UCL30 battery. There is a common power-related problem discussed on German forums where after a TranzX battery re-cell the bike misbehaves... although this usually refers to 03/07 batteries (don't know...

    Gear changing?

It's a Marmite thing... some love it, some hate it. I have two mid-drive e-bikes, one with a Gearsensor, one without. Some say Gearsensor blips the power too slowly or for too long (eg. when hill climbing), others love it just the way it is. Whether you have one or not, you simply "tweak" your...

    Ebike muggings ??

It's reported as a common problem on the Bristol to Bath cycle-path, and here's a story from London. I'm always wary, especially when cycling off-road secluded routes. I've already had 4 youths on stolen mopeds try to run me off one cycle-path...

BrakeAce lets mountain bikers know if they're too big on the brakes

Call me naive, but brake fade/failure occurs when they overheat, don't they? Surely a simple thermal sensor strapped to the fins of your brake pads/calliper (designed/relied on to disperse the heat), simple circuit with green/yellow/red LED on the bars... job done for a fiver!

Carrera crosscity E power on issue

The Winora/TranzX BL03 battery referred to pre-dates the whole TranzX CANbus era by some margin (2017/2018) although it may have used some earlier smarts/comms method. And Halfords say of their Crosscity "As standard on all Carrera E-bikes, the Crosscity comes with an integrated smart control...
