To build or not to build

IMO, £100 a day is not enough to also cover support and a warranty. There's nothing wrong with creating a one-off for resale, but as an ongoing business you're asking for trouble with that sort of margin.

To build or not to build

Amen! As somebody who earns a living from ebay, as well as other other online sales channels, I advise that you should always follow the golden rule: Never sell something that you can't afford to lose!

What do you do to prevent theft of your e-bikes/battery?

Christ! Imagine trying to unlock the bike, having to go through a process of elimination with seven keys every time.

Bafang cables - why so long!

Some vendors do state that you should figure out your wire routing as a first step, but most people dismiss this as unnecessarily cautious (I know I did). They then end up kicking themselves once they realise they have to start from scratch in order to route the wires correctly.

Bafang cables - why so long!

Don't be too hard on yourself. Nearly everyone makes the same mistake when installing a BBS motor for the first time.

    Copyrights

I think the ruling is attempting to protect the copyright holder in the following example: A copyrighted image published on the web is reproduced without the owner's consent and published elsewhere on the web as a second version. The original image was accompanied by the relevant copyright...

    Copyrights

Maybe the court means that the photographer must explicitly allow usage - "not limiting" usage does not imply consent.

    Loose power connectors

The cheap and nasty bullet connectors made from soft steel are god damn awful. Propper RC bullet connectors are extremely reliable and won't cause any problems.

    Punchers & solar panels/regen breaking

It depends on your specific controller, but usually you have to engage brake cutouts for regenerative braking to occur. If you have a controller from Grin, Sabvoton, Adapto, Sevcon or Kelly, or have a Cycle Analyst, it would be possible to engage regen automatically on a 'throttle-off' event...

    Punchers & solar panels/regen breaking

It's not that energy recapture through regenerative braking is inefficient (the actual DC-DC conversion efficiency will likely be somewhere in the region of 90-95%), just that most of the energy used to make the vehicle move in the first place is lost to overcome air resistance. In reality...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Hmmm. It's more than just a little unfair to single out SW for something that hasn't even happened. There's no point in jumping to conclusions until further details are understood. The bike in question could turn out to be perfectly legal, but ridden by an a$$hole.

    Buying from em3ev?

I paid £22 tax on a £567.41 purchase (BBSHD + extras) a few weeks back, shipped using DHL. I got off lightly and suspect I should have been charged more.

    Buying from em3ev?

Nothing dodgy about them at all. EM3EV is based in China, run and owned by Paul (UK born), a long trusted member of the ebike community. IMO, EM3EV is the best of all the Chinese ebike companies, so you've little to worry about. AFAIU, there's no UK support, although Paul tends to deal with...

    Custom Builders

I converted a 2012 Giant Anthem X2, which I built for the sole-purpose of off-road trail and singletrack riding – for everything else, I prefer a rear direct drive motor with loads of power. As an aside, I personally wouldn't like to use a mid-drive as a daily driver. How is it? It's so much...

    Custom Builders

I've just finished a 2012 Giant Anthem X2 BBSHD build a couple of weeks ago. I can assure you that there's nothing difficult about installing a BBSXX kit - You can ask for any help you might need right here. It is important that you do some research first to ensure that your intended host bike...

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

This has definitely been done before, although I think it was a one-off fabrication. I can't remember where I saw it (probably on ES), but I stumbled across it recently while looking for a PF41 to JIS BB adapter. EDIT: I've not managed to find it having just spent 15 mins looking, so I'm...

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

Sorry, a total brainfart moment from me there. I was picturing a 73mm motor, along with a spacer in a 68mm BB. You are of course totally correct. A BBSHD in a longer length would be the only option.

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

I hadn't realised about the oversized chainstays, although in my experience, a 68mm BBSxx motor should fit a 73mm BB along with a spacer and longer bolts for the fixing plate. There's also the BBSHD if a longer BB is required.

Advice on which donor bike to buy please.

Is this due to having a press fit bottom bracket? If so, a BB adapter can usually be used to accommodate a BBSxx motor.
