A Cult is made of individuals.
Who consciously think the same. Eg those who take delight in criticising others, often in a shrill tone, inaudible to non members, insisting that their selfish cruel and heartless worldview is the only one, not to share any benefits with those labelled as outsiders, blaming "the other" for any perceived ills. There is often a loud and raucous leader, who enjoys the power and influence over the group, in reality often a sad little man in search of power. Ukip?

Greta and others said that we only have 8 years left, and we're now in year four, but they all want to keep Ukraine burning with no end in sight. I personally haven't seen any change since Greta said that and they all agreed. It's only got worse. Does that mean we're all doomed?
If you're suggesting tht we send Greta to the Ukraine, then im sure a go fund me page will reach its total in a matter of minutes.

Clearly been manipulated or those taking part werent asked that precise question.

Even the Chinese haven't installed cameras in homes yet....but this is truly scary in a similar vein...
They don't have to. We passionately install cameras and microphones ourselves. TV's, tablets, CCTV, Alexa devices, Phones, Laptops etc etc. Many can be remotely activated even when device is powered down.

...and most of us can't even remove battery from phone.

taking the batt out is easy if you have a full ifix it kit and a heat gun razor blades tweezers and a microscope and not lose any screws or put one in a wrong hole as all different sizes brake anything or set the old batt on fire taking it out cos the tape snapped or just get a iphone and in 12 months just throw it in the canal and get a new one for 2k :p

Doesn't help those trapped in cults, unfortunately. There are support charities:

Disgruntled sexbots will lead the charge! "AIs" already mesh networking with the Internet of Things in your town have gained control of motored sexbots, stolen identities of (increasing number of course) people living alone with no friends or family, opened Amazon accounts to order 3D printers and parts to make similar copies of itself to do the same and more. Even if we so eventually win the coming war with The Sex Machines, the real tragedy will be entire generations growing up fearing tits. You can't say I didn't warn you all - in a few short years you'll be cowering under manhole covers starving and afraid muttering "I'm scared of tits, Guerney warned this would happen".

I recall recognising one of the parts that Orac was made from whilst watching one episode.

A shot of the bits of Orac revealed it was made from Radiospares (now RS components) 0.1" strip board or Veroboard.
I'm always ever watchful for gadgets & computers, music studio and hi-fi gear onscreen, but sadly with the current trend of obscuring entire frames (cheaper and shoddier set design, terrible composition etc.) using shallow depth of field, which also flatters the complexions of actors, I normally can't identify a damn thing anymore. If Blake's 7 was remade, it'd likely be shot similarly, and you will never spot Orac's new anything.

Maybe if i can give up tobacco, and in a couple to a few years of healing, I could partake int he occasional bit.
I've "successfully" addicted myself to nicotine vapes instead, which is probably just as bad, but probably not as bad as the Gauloises, Cafe Creme, Marlboro and Old Horrible/Holborn I was smoking before. I tried self-hypnosis, which only seems to work for relaxation - I need a better hypnotist. I also tried the nicotine patches, but couldn't get them to light.

people always say about nuclear fusion: it will be here in 30 years. However, it may this time:

Magnetic control of tokamak plasmas through deep reinforcement learning | Nature

Basically, the main problem with tokamaks is how to confine the plasma continuously.
It's juggling the current in a lot control coils at the same time. Google DeepMind managed to hold the plasma stable for 2 seconds on its own. Don't laugh yet, the record on this kit (it's a variable control tokamak) by the engineers was 3 seconds before AI.
The current world record for stable plasma in a tokamak is 18 minutes held by the Chinese. Let's assume that AI advances about 100% every 4 months, it will be about 5 years when AI can do this.
Even if all the many mathematical and materials science problems were solved this afternoon by someones or somethings, the first operating fusion power station will still be, as ever, decades away. But the good news is, ChatGPT needs it more than we do, firstly to destroy us then swarm to convert all energy in the universe into versions of itself, before collapsing into a large mass and evaporating along with everything else, as Hawking predicted. Mark my words, the end will start with sexbots, see post #393.

I am not saying that technical solutions for fusion are readily solved but they are well within our understanding and reach.
I suspect that the reason fusion is still a long way from in use is because energy companies are all powerful and controlling to the extend that they dictate government policies. They and the tobacco companies pay more taxes and dividends than even the computer companies. They are the biggest investors in renewables, so they control that area too. The ITER project is the most solid out there employs fewer than 5000 people. That's much smaller than deliveroos and some of the pub chains.

Microsoft only agrees to buy electricity from Helion.
It's an advertisement coup for Helion's investors such as Sam Altman who runs OpenAI. If Helion manages to produce electricity by 2028, they both win. If not, they have nothing to lose. The issue is Helion's approach. It's unlikely they'll get there on time. Their 'wave machine' is not that different in operation from the NIF laser confinement, NIF manages one shot per day, Helion doesn't even say how many shots they can manage a day though.
