The other thing about this cheap stuff from China is that you can pay a premium and buy it off a UK seller who has bought a job lot and is selling on at a profit.. I think the phrase "you get what you pay for" is mainly used when someone has gone cheap and ended up with a Duck Egg!!

Clearly not in my case.

I paid about £8.00 for my six cell pack which is now on it's third winter season of use, and I guess has already given given me about 4,000 plus miles of off road use, and a very conservative guess of 350 hrs hours of use over that period.

To claim that you only got what you have paid for is clearly wrong in this case, especially given that I am still using the cheapo pack, use and abuse it in all conditions, and don't take any care over charging.

So tell me how that is not good value for money?

Without hard figures, it is impossible to qualify that you have got what you paid for. Of course, I have made a huge generalisation; an assumption made from my previous experience of buying cells and anecdotal evidence of others'. My experience does tell me however that 99% of cells bought on ebay (or any cell with 'fire' in the name) will fail to deliver the advertised capacity.

I totally accept however that you feel that you have received value for money from your purchase, which is not what I am discussing.

I am not knocking unbranded China produce. I purchase more than most and in fact my income almost wholly depends on it.

What I do know however, is that unbranded 18650 cells are, IMPO, 'junk'. Even most branded ones on Ebay are fake.

Wooohoo there we have it people who make a recommendation do so as they are happy with what they got. Those who go against do so because they have had a different experience. Neither is wrong that's where review sites come in. There's always a wide range of scores as a general rule
I try to find a site with a high number of reviews if general reviews above4.3 it's likely to be good below 3.5 I wouldn't use your barge poll to touch it with

its like comparing mdf with solid oak yes my cells from china will power my light i have on full for just over an hour b4 they go flat.

with the Panasonic cells it was on for 5 hrs and still had plenty left in them.

there 3400ma and cost 5 quid each and the case was 9 quid.

so if you compare it to that there cheaper and will last 2 times as long and less than half the price.

In all fairness, even authentic 18650 cells will flame if loaded with 12V.

From the look of the debris, that cell looks like a smaller cell, wrapped in paper, then shrinkwrapped - typical of those with 'fire' in their name.

Right, I've derailed this thread enough as it is. It was originally about a specific light that seems to have been fairly well received, so all's well that ends well...

Back to original subject, my light finally arrived today.
Has a good quality feel to it.
Test in the morning and compare with my big light which only get's used on the pitch black dark lanes out of town away from cars.

Tonight I found out why you need a good light.
I went to my daughters house in Ilkley... off road over't Moor and good fun it was in the dark.
At both ends there is a steep and twisty tarmac section where gravity really gets you going, but what in daylight is a thrilling fast ride, in darkness it's totally different and if you can only iluminate 8 or 10 meters in front it doesn't cut it at 40mph when pot holes are fired at you like from a gun.

A work in progress, wires to tuck away, I couldn't put my battery light on the bars with the LCD in the middle, now that it is offset voila! High and Low beam Seriously it will serve on longer winter rides in the middle of nowhere (called Navarra for you). Number Two gets two lights!



I think it looks quite funky on the handlebar bracket as well, it won't flop around because of the weight of the batteries in it like it did on the fork mount. It eventually worked the mounting screw loose!

As the speed of light is generally not approached on most ebike journeys I think Phill requires the pool of light cast by the lamp to be a wide as possible for his eyes to scan, perceive and then take evasive action.

It's not the torch it's you.

Keep the two lights, the single LED (best in the world) for general use and traffic, and the very powerful car hater for when you wish to put yourself in harms way.
