Hi , Just Bought One Of The Sunlova E-bike Kits Seems A Good Kit But The Pedelec Sensor Supplied Is To Thick To Fit (when The Crank Arm Is Tighten It Crushes It !) Does Anyone Know Where I Can Get One Of The Smaller Versions Of These (like You Get On The Allien Bikes)

I'm in the same boat. Some suggest putting on the other side of the chainwheel but there isnt enough room on that side either.

Another suggestion, in the case of a triple chainwheel, is to remove the small chainring to create some space. Unfortunately this doesn't work for me as the chainrings don't unscrew:(

I dismantled the sensor and it doesn't look like the usual sensors. In this case the 3 magnets are intended to be fixed to the bottom bracket and the inside of the sensor turns when the crank is turned. Its a bulky arrangement. Would love to be able to fit a different sensor.

Hopefully someone has managed to find one that works.

I've just solved mine this evening. There should be a crank spindle (BB) set supplied with the kit. It's too long for a tripple chainwheel, so chuck the spindle but keep all the other bits. I took the spindle to a bike shop and they had a draw full of spindles. They were able to find an asymetric one that had a long side about 3mm shorter than the supplied one, which was still long enough to take the optional left side supplied sensor. The other end of the spindle was about 8mm shorter, that ended up positioning the chainwheel only about 3mm further out. I was able to take this adjustment on the cable and end adjustment screws so that I could get all my gears (just - another mm longer and I would have not made it). So, my suggestion is try and find an old-fashioned bike shop. BTW I couldn't find a suitable cartridge type BB. I now have cups, cones and balls.

I had exactly the same problem - give Sunlova a call and they will swap it for a left hand side mounted one !
Am fitting my swapped one tonight.

I was in touch with sunlova too but the left hand version is just a rewired right hand original - unfortunately that won't fit by crank either.

hi,
you can fix the sensor on both side of the crank, any sensor is able to work on both sides, you only must turn the sensor.

today i´m to stupid to upload an image, i dont know why so I make a special "help-point" on my website, please check

Elektrofahrrad, pedelec zubehör

scroll down and the photo explain this better as my terrible english:rolleyes:

Yep, as the sensor is now on the other side you must also flip the disk over as well...

THAT's what that was for :D

I couldn't work out why that was in my kit!

Hi guys

Unfortunately my sensor is totally different to the ones you have:( Here are some photos. The whole thing is 2cm thick!

Stormb22 - i'll be very keen to see how you get on. My problem may be a bigger one as the motor stopped running on my commute this morning  Hope the controller hasn't given up the ghost!!

hi john,
i have seen a lot of different PAS but this is a stupid construction of a PAS.
Only solution, buy an other one.

regards
frank
Hi Frank

I agree - it is pretty bad isn't it:)

I would love to buy a different PAS but I'm not sure which one will work with the controller that came with the kit. I think there would be plenty of room to fit the standard type sensor. Any suggestions?

John

Hi John,

first you must check witch sort of sensor you have some give a pulse signal and some give DC-signal.
Also you must check the DC signal of your controller for the PAS, 99% it is 5V but a few controller have higher voltage.

then you must find a dealer for the PAS, this should be no problem in britain

Then connect the new PAS, most time the connector is different so you must welding the cable.
But all is not a big deal and with support from the guys of this forum it should be no problem

by the way, maybe the company who has sold to you this kit, i think they know this problem, and have a replacement PAS in Stock?

regards
frank

Hi Frank

Sunlova seem to be aware of the issue but when I contacted them I was told that the supplier provided another version of the sensor which basically is the same sensor with the wiring reversed so that it could be fitted on the left hand side!

I'll do a bit of checking on the controller voltage etc.. hopefully I'll be able to get the information I need.

Many thanks

John

it seems sunlova are supplying a kit where the sensor is useless ,they seem to think supplying the left hand one solves the problem ! the sensor supplied is a joke i've asked them for there supplier contact.

just had a snotty e-mail from sunlova they claim they are not aware of any issues with the sensor and no one has contacted them about the sensors before except me , however they claim there should be a longer axle in the box but i did not have one as there is no parts list to check what should be in the box i have asked for there supplier info but as yet they have not given it,would be interested to hear if any of you had this or any problems . really its my fault i should had bought a allien kit !!! i don't say i told you so !

I've definitely been in contact with them! And the fact that they refer to a sensor that goes on the left hand side, which is a new option, means that they are aware that people are having problems.

I'll email them again and maybe refer them to this thread. It's not good for business if people are unhappy with the quality of their product.

sensor sunlova

they seem to think that supplying a longer axle corrects the problem but because of their incorrect info i had to buy new forks and now looks like new bb kit.
