Sensor Required

I have fitted the kit to my Claud Butler CBR and am generally pleased with it. I asked for the optional left hand sensor because I could see that there was not enough space for it on the chainwheel side. I already had a Sunlova mountain bike and so I knew what the sensor was like, and BTW this bike is excellent. There was a longer axle in the box and, I as I said before, I couldn't use it because it was too long on the chainwheel side, so I got an asymmetric axle from a bike shop for £5. If you only have a single chainwheel, the long axle should be OK. For anybody else reading, the Sunlova bike is really well made and more powerful than the kit - must be the controller because the motor is the same. For the extra money, you can save a lot of hassle by buying the bike rather than the kit. I wrote a review of both the bike and the kit, but so far admin have not published them!?
BTW, I have met both partners at Sunlova when I collected my purchases and they seem like nice helpful people. Their English is not fantastic, but they seemed to know what they were doing.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that it's not just the longer spindle in the kit. There should be the whole set: bearings, spindle, cups and retaining nuts.

I'm afraid I got nothing like that in my kit. I bought it in June this year.

I figure tho that the extra length spindle would push the chainwheel too far out and ruin the alignment with the rear derailleur - its not a bad idea though. Mind you it would be simpler to supply a standard sensor that would fit most bikes.

No new spindle in my kit (September delivery), the "reversed" sensor fitted behind the left pedal crank arm OK - once I removed a plastic cover to make it a bit thinner.
Now working OK.
They are aware of the issue as they said that I should have told them I have a three ring chainwheel set and they would have sent the left one initially.
It sounds like each batch of kits is different - or they do not check the contents before they send them out.

sunlova sensor

i did tell sunlova that i would require the left hand sensor however looking at it it appears to be made the wrong way round if you reverse it the crank arm would sit in there just right as there is a round cut out on one side supplying the extra long axle is no good for triple chain sets and i think this is the problem they don't understand

Hi - just been directed to this thread :)

I am not bothered about running with the pedelec sensor but if I do want to fit it at some time in the future it would be nice to have a solution.

Just to chip in I have the same sensor as John L and it is far too bulky to fit anywhere. I did get a complete bottom bracket assembly in my kit (in bits - ball bearings, cups etc etc).

I would like to know who in the UK supplies just sensors on there own? They must be cheap and surely worth me buying one and having a play with it.

Hi Pob,

I had a similar problem fitting a sensor to my recumbent trike. My solution was to cut away some of the plastic between the magnets until if fitted inside the smallest of the triple chainrings P1040461 | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Don't know if it is possible with your kit;)

trevor , i would be interested to know which bit of plastic you removed?
On the fixed part of the sensor there was an outer cover and an inner cover. Removing the smaller one (lightly glued in but you do not know until it is too late) allowed the fixed paer to sit a little deeper onto the shaft.
The moving part of the sensor cover does rub on the fixed one but to me this just makes a better seal, I could rub it down at a later date or just leave it to wear itself in.

Sorry for the delay in replying.
