saw one in Wycombe yesterday, thought it was incredibly stealth, BUT zero cardio, dread thinking how much weight I'd gain if I stopped walking altogetherA lot of these two wheeled, electric platforms are zipping up and down the pavements lately. Are they legal? I can not find anything on them either yes nor no. Sorry if this has been already covered but nothing turned up in the search.
Thanks oldtom but I knew about the Segway. What I am inquirering about are the two wheeled platforms, with no control arm, called segboards. They are sometimes refered to as hover boards. They are not legal in the UK anywhere the general public has access. That they are used by certain operators for various group activities does not change that fact and brings up concerns as to the validity of any insurance cover claimed by the operators.
They are inherently dangerous as Jimi Heselden, the company owner, discovered five years ago when he died after going over a cliff on one of his own machines.

Whoops! Misunderstood, I'm afraid. I'm not familiar with the boards but I'd be surprised if they are legalWhat I am inquirering about are the two wheeled platforms with no control arm called segboards.
Was hoping you would have something to add as you seem to have your ducks in a row when it comes to legal issues. What you say makes perfect sense. I saw these guys at the NEC too which raised my hackers a bit. Methinks this needs to be nipped in the bud quickly. Bikes on pavements are one thing, these things do not look that easy to control. No, they are not legal. Any form of motorised transport used in public places has to be specifically approved for it to be legal, either by type approval or by exemption from type approval. These have not been ruled upon, which makes public usage automatically illegal.

Someone in the e-bike world, well known,I overheard him asking for a quote for 200 pieces from the chinese guys.....most of the people testing seemed to have real control problems but I suppose its a case of practice makes perfect. Was hoping you would have something to add as you seem to have your ducks in a row when it comes to legal issues. I've shared the pics John, not hit the like button and if you wait for a pic of me controlling one, I shouldn't hold your breath!Well you’ve shared the photo and if you’ve liked the page you’re in with a shout. Look forward to seeing a picture of you in full control of one of the things in due course.
