Even Nasa shows globe 15% greener, plants don't lie!

"a phenomenon most obvious in places like China and India where agriculture has intensified".
Yeah, most people like growing and esp eating food.
"Note that the map does not show overall greenness, which is why it does not exactly match heavily forested areas like the Amazon or the Congo Basin."
I.e. it cannot show the volume of vegetation, only its area.
"There is a clear greening trend in boreal and Arctic regions".
So the increased co2 has increased growth and also reduced plants need for water lost during transpiration.

"The Maldives observed significant changes to its top markets since *re-opening of borders on 15 July 2020*."
Err, I thought everywhere was locked down then, due to the "thing"?
" the Maldives welcomed a total of 555,494 international tourists in 2020.. 1.5million in 2021.. got 1.6million in 2022.. goal for 2023 is 2million".
Hold on, why isn't it underwater? Oh yeah, the sea didn't rise after all! :)

But we seem to have wandered away from electricity prices, yes?

I was getting all excited until I figured that a 48v 20Ah one would weigh 45kg instead of 4.5kg.

Based on our latest study: https://arxiv.org/abs/2311.13110, compression seems to be all there is in current AI systems, including GPT-4. The remaining question is: Can compression alone lead to general intelligence or even consciousness? My bet is a clear NO.
I think it's a bit simplistic to equate current AI systems to just a glorified compression. GPT-4, Stable Diffusion and hundreds other AI tools are much more than that. It uses compressed data to build the output but the underlying logic is a lot more akind to how our brains actually work. AI follows the example of newly born babies. Their brains figure out slowly but steadily how to control the mouth, eyes, fingers, arms, legs, voice box etc.
AI progresses similarly, from the current generative stage to interactive to independent robots.
AI can already understand text input, sound and speeches, images.
It can output coherent words, images and robotic movements.
Engineers now teaches it to understand mathematics. Just google OpenAI Q star. It won't be long before AI can solve differential equations.

I agree. AI uses some of the same techniques as compression; a model to understand some aspects of the world, and (large scale) statistics to back it up. However, AI applies these techniques in a much more general way then compression does..

With the new more creative and smart tarrifs electricity suppliers are offering, there's a stronger case for a solar system because you can buy electricity when the price is low (night time) and export all your generated power when the price is high. Details here:

China is battling a wave of respiratory illness in children. Scientists are rushing to find out why
Experts say ‘no evidence’ yet to suggest a new virus is to blame for reports of ‘undiagnosed pneumonia’

Mysterious White Lung Syndrome Spreads Globally, Cases Reported Worldwide
A new strain of bacterial pneumonia has emerged in China and spread to Denmark, the United States, and the Netherlands.

Referring to the trillions of dollars in stimulus cheques handed to Americans during lockdown and $4 trillion printed by the US Federal Reserve to buy bonds, he said: “That money is like heroin.

The chief executive of the world’s largest bank has compared a $9 trillion wave of cash unleashed during the pandemic to heroin, as he suggested the US economy is addicted to debt...
Almost the whole world is addicted to debt, the first world's financial system cannot run without it setting currency relative values.

The position is far worse, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero are lying to hide the truth, in part by under reporting the total number of meters. Only 57.1% of the smart meters in this country are transmitting readings wirelessly.

And it is going to get far worse.

According to the Parliament's Public Accounts Committee, 7 million of the smart meters that have already been installed are about to go dark between now and 2030, during which time 2G and 3G networks are being gradually switched off by the phone networks. It seems many of the existing meters were not made with 5G or even 4G communication modules, since at the time they were too expensive or didn't even exist.

New technologies are being developed, but they of course will need to be installed all over again, no doubt that cost once again falling on the poor consumer.

The whole smart meter scheme has been a confidence trick on the public, falsely persuading them to foot the bill in the name of a non existent efficiency gain. In truth it was solely intended to benefit the electricity companies by saving them the cost of having their army of meter readers, but their widespread failure to transmit readings means they haven't even performed that function sufficiently.

It's vitamins A deficiency, which is very common in Asia due to the type of diet - just the press trying to scare you again.
