All that is easier said than done due to very few stores etc. But I take your point. I may buy a decent bike and self convert yet.

As you are already finding out its a minefield out there and we can all suggest various things to you BUT as you read more and hopefully test lots of different bikes you will narrow down the field .

Events - great way to test lots of bikes at once

Dealers - i can suggest 3 that are not silly distances from you ( but I travelled in excess of 400 miles to find what I wanted)

50 cycles - Loughborough fairly expensive but really good quality bikes

OnBike - Kidderminster - as above , my personal "local" bike dealer(for me 120 mile round trip)

Juicy Bike - Buxton

Happy reading, testing, hunting ....... as i said previously its an expensive purchase so don't rush in and buy something you will regret later.

Hi Simon
We have our trade centre in New Mills, which is a little nearer to you, but better still, a new dealer close to Leeds just about to open their doors: Brunswick Bike Centre, LS21 1DL. If you email me I can give you a number to call, or phone our shop of course.

Good luck with your search and with fending off the ever helpful dealers! Best advice you've been given so far: go and try some bikes.

Just to point out that I have no connection with Woosh other than I tried one of their bikes and was not only impressed with the bike it self and how it handled, but was even more impressed in what one got for the £.

Buy a Woosh or not, I don't care :p

Hi all,
I can absolutely confirm that - Dave does not work for us or get any kickbacks or favours, thats a guarantee...although he is always welcome to a cup (maybe pot?) of tea if ever he is down our way - as indeed are any members.

BTW, our new CDs are arriving late tomorrow, so shipping should start mid week next week, a few days later than planned. Apologies folks.

Hatti

Hi Hatti,

Are you exhibiting (bikes, that is) at the Eden Project event in April?

I'd love to try the CD, in comparison to the "Bosh" bikes & KD's Ibex.

Hi Jackhandy

No sorry - we are only doing Redbridge (East London) at the moment (7th April).
I guess it might be a bit far for you?

Could anyone explain the benefits of this model over say the Sirocco 2? Is the motor in this one proven as no make is specified. I know its not in stock yet so maybe the questions cant be answered yet.

I like the look of both models and the price (since I am a Yorkshire man!)

Sorry waj1234,

I realised late yesterday that I haven't actually replied to this specific question.
The Sirocco 2 will propel anyone who is less than 110 Kgs up a hill with no real problems.
Over that rider weight and there will be issues, and we would recommend the CD version.
Although it costs £100 more, the motor will definitely have have more 'kick', so would also be good for anyone who is not heavy but has a lot of steep hills.

So ...110 Kgs or less and a few hills - Sirocco 2 at £699
110Kgs or less but a lot of steep hills - Sirocco CD at £799
110Kgs or more and hills: Sirocco CD at £799

Of course this generalizes the situation, I know. People lose (and gain) weight and ride in different areas and what to one rider may be a steep hill to another is a gentle slope.
We recommend talking to us before ordering, having a test ride if at all possible, weighing up where you are likely to ride most and where you might ride sometimes.

Despite being heavier (the TCM weighs 4.5kgs), the TCM is better than the Bafang 8-Fun on a number of aspects:

- zero resistance pedaling (without power)

- quieter

- More efficient use of power, extending range in pedelec assist mode.

- Robust construction

waj1234....we are coming up to the Manifold Trail,Wetton,Peak District, afternoon April 13....sorry thats as close we come to Leeds....the Trail has some wonderful side roads where you will be able to test the hillclimbing abilities of different types of ebikes....lots of advice from other ebikers.
KudosDave
Dave I've just been searching your posts looking for a thread on this Manifold event, but have only found a couple of references made in other threads, is there a thread I've missed? I was going to send a link of the event to a few friends. I couldn't see anything on your website either.

That's interesting. It looks like that motor could be fitted to any bike as a conversion.
