Isn't "ill" Boris currently resting at his own Second Home at Chequers in Buckinghamshire, and returning to his main home at Downing Street next week?
We commented on this before. Both Downing Street and Chequers are work places for the PM. There's office functions at both, the daily despatch box arives for the PM's attention that day. Both places host cabinet and other meetings like Cobra. There's also reception facilities at both for leaders and diplomats from other countries.

So neither is a residence in the sense most understand it, since a prime minister as always on duty, on call, even in the middle of the night.

So as much as I dislike Boris Johnson, I don't think this is a subject for criticism.

There's wi-fi at this holiday park yet they got turfed out. When visiting I was able to telecommute. It also had a nice kitchen, and lounge with access to shops for entertaining.

"Both places host cabinet and other meetings like Cobra"

If and when he attends the Cobra meetings ;-)

This man makes so much sense. It's 41 minutes long, and I did not think I would watch it all - but I did!
Exactly what he said has happened. Locking people up has just prolonged the agony.
Then, when I watched the UK Column from Plymouth yesterday, even more things fell in to place. https://www.ukcolumn.org/ukcolumn-news/uk-column-news-24th-april-2020

It has actually been specifically denied that Johnson is receiving red boxes.

Hi Roger,
Where did you get this from? Living in Ceredigion, I've heard nothing in local papers or news.
Did a 21 miler yesterday from where my wife works (bike transported in the vivaro) up onto Llanllwni mountain then home the long way along mostly single track roads. Saw no police at all, waved to a few people as we passed from the other side.
So, a solo bike ride through extremely rural (some moorland) territory, not coming within 20feet of anyone. Wonder how many regulations (or is it laws?) I've broken. Guess I should be locked up:eek:

Benjahamin the details are on the BBC Wales Site this morning . The Title is `First day of tougher lockdown rules `. It is described as Legal Guidance . Cyclists are being told they should travel no farther than a `reasonable walking distance from home ` The Cycle Rules are . Cycle alone or with someone from the same house . They must stick to routes they know . Take care of walkers, runners or other cyclists . Two metres apart and stop to let people go by .
Wales wants to lead the World in introducing tighter restrictions when everyone else is doing the opposite . The idiots in charge obviously do not ride bikes .

Forgot to add that yesterday they said you are not to `linger`. No mention of that today , that`s a relief .

I agree that the idiots in charge obviously don't cycle. To cycle no further than can be reasonably walked is a total joke. They are also well aware that the Welsh NHS was in a dire state before the virus, overstretched and in the hands of bean counters.
I found this on cyclinguk.org. under - Guidence on Regulation 8 of the Health Protection (Corona Virus Regulations)(Wales) Regulations 2020.
Cycling

17. Cycling is a valid form of exercise and is also a suitable way of going to work. Cycling is generally a low-risk activity but with emergency services under pressure, it is important to take steps to manage risk wherever possible. An accident or a breakdown far from home would place additional strain on health services or require a further journey to be made by someone else to provide assistance.
18. People are expected to only cycle alone or with members of their household, on routes they know well, and that are well within their ability level. Cyclists on shared paths should be considerate of walkers, runners and other people cycling: they should stay two metres from others, slow their pace and stop to let people pass as appropriate.
19. Cycling should be local, as a rule of thumb limited to travelling no further than a reasonable walking distance from home. Exercising by cycling significant distances from home is not considered to be a reasonable excuse for leaving home.
20. Cycling to work, or for work, is a reasonable excuse to be outside (so long as going to work, or doing the work, is itself justifiable).

Summary

21. The summary of the position is as follows:
  • everybody should stay at home as much as possible
  • going out to exercise is, however, a valid reason to leave home
  • exercise should be local and generally be limited to walking, running and cycling, and travelling by vehicle to exercise should be avoided unless there is a good reason for doing so
  • exercise should be limited to a reasonable period only once a day (unless there is a particular medical reason to exercise more frequently)

Of course Wales has to do things differently to England in order for the Assembly to justify it's existence. How this intended to be policed around here is moot. Haven't seen a police car for about 3 weeks. As I type I can hear two chainsaws in the valley and the agricultural/hardware supplier, just over the road, is open.

Generally I'm being careful but reasonable. Went shopping yesterday on the bikes to the local town. Stood outside the veg shop waiting (only one person at a time inside) on a pavemnent only about 3 foot wide. 3 others in the queue standing 6foot apart, however those walking along the pavement had nowhere to go. Guess we all just held our breath.

But there's still all the other duties I mentioned, and I doubt he can refuse the red boxes due to the sometimes essential content, other than when ill with a deputy in place.

Chequers, like Downing Street, is a work place with residential facilities.

.

His spokesman said that he is not “currently carrying out government work” and is “focusing on his recovery.”

He will not receive a red box with official papers, and has not had any telephone calls with the Queen, though he is believed to be in daily phone contact with doctors from St Thomas’ hospital, where he was treated.

Carol Thatcher once described Chequers as like a “boutique hotel, albeit with top-level security” and the “perfect weekend retreat” while David Cameron told the former French president Francois Hollande that it was “a good place for thinking – away from London”.

Again:

Who this guidance is for
This guidance is for people planning to visit second homes or holiday premises during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Essential travel does not include visits to second homes, camp sites, caravan parks or similar, whether for isolation purposes or holidays. People must remain in their primary residence. Not taking these steps puts additional pressure on communities and services that are already at risk.

There is an irony here:

Isn't "ill" Boris currently resting at his own Second Home at Chequers in Buckinghamshire, and returning to his main home at Downing Street next week?

I'll bet he'll be driving back using his private car too, rather than commuting on a Boris Bus as an "essential worker" or cycling using a Boris Bike!

It does smack of double standards!
Of course it is double standards .. and why not?. You elect people to be your leaders, you expect them to fly around the world doing business on your behalf, and you give them powers of life and death over you and your loved ones . Like him or loathe him, BJ , Chief Constables , your Admirals etc are your superiors. You have given them this authority. It is unreasonable to expect them to follow the same restrictions... And no this is not irony or sarcasm ,just reality.
