Am currently on the search for spokes. If I end up with ones a mm or 2 too long is it ok to file them down from the inside? i.e better to be too long than too short, I mean what size tolerance are they ok with from a spoke calc prog?

Well, I've decided I'm not as good as making things as D8veh is so I've ordered a triangle bag from Paul instead.

Here's what what I ended up with - as above, I'm not happy with it so when the bag arrives it'll all get ripped out again.

**Mods - I think this thread is a candidate for moving to the "hotrod" forum.

What bits aren't you happy with ? a +ve thing - it's nice not to have those velcro straps wrapping all over the frame tubes !

Put some decals on it, and it'll look beautiful. Just one comment though: I'd put a triangle of polystyrene in the bottom corner of the box to hold the batteries horizontal. It's not good to take the weight on a corner. Go over a big bump and it might be a bit more than a triangle bag you need. Small risk, but high consequences.

I used to teach woodwork and compared with some projects I've seen, it's not bad, but It's hard to design and make something that doesn't look home made, most things you make are prototypes and need developing to get them looking reasonable - after the 3rd or 4th attempt you might be getting there.

Could you split the batteries up and put them in rear side pannier bags somehow instead?

I don't want them on the rear rack - got to go in the triangle - even though I don't like the box it rides so much better :)

Better?

I only ordered one to see what it would look like - need to get one for the other side - and possible a two more for the lower blank bits on each side of the box.

Yeah, I'd had that though as well - here is battery mount v2:-

Flash makes it a bit hard to see but it's now sitting on a wooden platform with foam at the rear (seat tube side) and at the top.

Well I just couldn't make myself like the enclosure but my em3ev bag arrived today:-

Really pleased with it - could get another 6 packs in there I reckon! Painted the controller black as well to "stealth" it up a bit.

Why you don't like the enclosure?

It look much more professional to my eyes and more integrated to the bike with the same black colour

It was just too "home made" for my liking - I know that sounds odd as it is home made but I'm sure you get my drift. The small photos on here didn't really show the minor defects I kept seeing every time I went out to the bike.

I'm a perfectionist and it just didn't meet my expectations - I think I was spoiled seeing d8veh's creation. I'm ok with functional though, and the bag fits in that category - and I can really appreciate the build quality and good design touches - like the neoprene covered cable exits at the front and rear of the bag.

Can't you get the controller in the bag too ? Surely must be much more weatherproof in there .. and much shorter cable runs to both batteries and motor ?

Too hot. After running in the enclosure even with the air feed it was too hot to touch (I was doing lost of standing starts whilst tuning the cruise control though). So it needs the air flow. I am pulling 1800 watts from it though. I'm not going to be deliberately riding in the rain (I'm retired now so no need to) and it's pretty water resistant anyhow with the rubber gaskets.

Cable run to the battery isn't any longer than it was in the bag as I've flipped the battery round so the cable comes straight out the rear port on the bag.
