Ok I have ended up using a USB stick to copy the downloaded files from newer laptop to old knackered notebook and all is good, I finally have 100% success and three configurator files I can open. I can make parameter changes without connecting the motor for now and then save the new settings to files, all I have to do later is connect my motor, select the correct files and then compile and flash to the motor controller.

Good call!!! What midi controller of yours did Win10's update kill? And that's ANOTHER reason why I hate Windows 10!

The path was auto loaded when I entered the .bat file.
I had to change #10 to add the .exe after STVP_Cmdline.
#8 differed slightly and I left it, it read "PATH = %PATH%; C:STMicroelectronics\st_toolset\stvp; etc,etc.

Whatever you've done - if you're getting to the point where it's compiled and ready to flash a controller which isn't there, I think you're ready? Like I said, I haven't flashed a TSDZ2 before, because I don't have nor never will buy one. If you see the below, personally speaking I'd deffo proceed. Good luck!!!

A mega big thanks Guerney for your help, patience and expertise on programming, though as we now know most of the issues were down to this particular laptop. I still would have had an issue likley with placing the path and editing correctly.
Funnily the old notebook wouldn't download the NB++, so I also transferred it across via USB stick.

I'd wipe windows 10, install all the updates and then install the midisport on top. Updates break things in Windows 10 it seems, but installing over a freshly installed and updated Windows 10 might work? If I'd spent 3k on a sound card and needed it to work, I'd do it. But you have the Motu, so maybe don't need the midisport, which you are welcome to mail to me for free.

Ah well, they keep pushing new OSs and tech, and people think newer is always better... BTW that same seller has a Revox for sale, I've always wanted a decent Ampex, but those cost big bucks  I'll just buy a cheapo software modeller instead, which won't be as good...

Don't mention it Nealh, you've certainly helped me and many others on this forum! Often for no thanks or appreciation. And this isn't over yet - hope it all flashes and works. I think that getting your newer laptop flashing (without it wearing a plastic mackintosh in a park) is still worth attempting to fix using a 32 bit java install over the installation you've already done, because your old laptop sounds like it's on it's last legs, but also to satisfy my interest.

Funnily the old notebook wouldn't download the NB++, so I also transferred it across via USB stick.
They've changed web standards over the past couple of years, and some downloads won't start without OS updates, but as SW pointed out - DO NOT UPDATE WINDOWS 10 on your old laptop!!! Now that you have your files and have installed all needed software, disconnect your old laptop from the internet! Otherwise Windows 10 may simply keep downloading updates, whether you want it to or not!

I don't see that cmd file & flash box.
As soon as I 2x click the Jar file the configurator opens and I can access the three parameter boxes to alter things, I press compile and flash and the test settings I input are saved to the .ini files and show in the side pane on the rhs.
When one comes out of jar and opens the file .ini, the new test files are there next to the latest commit of the github. I simply delete the unwanted test .ini files so looks like all is ready to go.

Look for the stvp folder, and make sure the path is correct in the bat file, because that's not the result (ie command box messages) that myself and Bikes4Two got. As far as I'm aware, when it compiles, it tells you in the command box as it compiles, and also notifies of errors. Therefore nothing may happen when you connect it to the controller.

#8 differed slightly and I left it, it read "PATH = %PATH%; C:STMicroelectronics\st_toolset\stvp; etc,etc.
If the path to the stvp directory looks like the screenshot below, on your old laptop, that line needs to have this bit deleted:

\st_toolset

My configurator compiles and attempts to flash whether or not I'm connected to the internet, it's best to disconnect now to prevent Windows 10 being too clever for your own good.

Java is calling on the SDCC from a directory which doesn't exist, therefore it is not compiling. Just edit the path to read:

"PATH = %PATH%; C:STMicroelectronics\stvp; etc,etc.

...but check to see where your stvp folder is located first.

you can get some bargains from here http://larkingslist.com/ or https://shop.funky-junk.com/shop/category/sale/?v=79cba1185463

but go see how much those tapes cost these days as bet there a bloody fortune esp if you want one for a 24t reel to reel.
Cheers! I'll have a good nosey around that site! I've bought oodles of sound gear from here, some this year, sometimes because they're near, because they're always cheaper than ebay for sound gear, which makes my wallet freer. Speakers, amps, recorders, audio interfaces, mixers, mics etc. - you have to check for each every so often for the surprise bargains:

I want one for the bounce and natural compression tape gives, which can't be replicated digitally, not completely anyway. A decent Ampex costs about 50k, many musos record digital material on and record it as it plays, for tape's unique characteristics.

stvp is in the STM folder, so have altered the Path to read correctly.
The cmd is slow at loading all the script but yes it is the same as #367 reads.
One can and is able to make config changes without the motor connected and can save those changes as .ini files, to complete the final process one has to connect the motor controller and then pre select the required .ini file. They are stored in the config repositary.

I think if the black box isn't appearing showing it compiling and starting to flash, the configurator will be able to communicate with the controller for write protection removal? Or other functions such as reading the firmware.
