The Kalkhoff Image is a marvellous choice to benefit from the Bionx HT system not least because it won the very highest consumer testing accolade in Germany last year. Kalkhoff are very proud of that model and have apparently decided to pamper it.

In comparison to 15 similar cycles the all-rounder got the rating excellent (1.8) which put it in the first place as judged by Stiftung Warentest (the official German testing institute). “Safe and long lasting with a well balanced riding behavior: the relatively very reasonable Kalkhoff Image (900 Euro). In comparison to other bikes, it was awarded the first position.”

Personally I think the 8, 12 and 18Ah battery options secret is more interesting than the BionX one.

Agreed, Though I had hoped that the higher capacity battery would be LiFePO4.
That said I've not noticed any deterioration of my year old ProConnect S battery so if the prices are reasonable I'll certainly be buying one.
Almost doubling the distance you can travel on these bikes is a great advancement.
How have they managed to squeeze so much capacity into such a small case?

I think that the news of this new battery is very welcome. The fact that it is backward compatible with existing motor units demonstrates a commitment by Panasonic to the current battery fit. This in turn gives us reassurance that our current bikes wont become useless due to unavailability of batteries for a while longer.

Hopefully, as the Panasonic unit becomes ever more popular, a manufacturer will consider it worth producing an aftermarket battery. Who knows, an aftermarket battery may even be pitched at a price which results the bike making economic sense as a means of transport.

It's not a Panasonic battery though

OK, beans spilt. Biggest battery capacity on the market, inexpensive and, most importantly, back-compatible with every Kalkhoff electric bike we sell now and have ever sold.

If there's one message we want to get across about Kalkhoff it's this: they are super-serious about producing the all-round best electric bikes on the market, bar none, and looking after all their customers. They have the R&D, QC and buying power to match their intention.
I guess what we all want to know now is when will it be available and for how much?:)

Oh dear. That is a shame. I mistakenly thought that Panasonic were continuing with the development of the current system. I'm all disappointed now.

Every day I checked this thread expecting in anticipation a new revolution in E bike technology and every day I wet one pair of pants when opening the thread:eek: now several spoiled sets of M&S boxers later I wish I hadn`t bothered :(

What a let down:confused:

Since I'm in the process of looking for an ebike, would you recommend that I wait until later in the year then?

Has your website just broken down? I was looking at your bikes and now it won't work. :(

I owe Tim an apology here - he really only told me there were interesting developments coming up when I was asking about battery matters.

I 'spilled the beans' as it were after Googling 'kalkhoff 18ah battery germany' and getting a PDF up with details of the 2011 Agattu range. (16ah, 20ah etc didn't produce anything!) The page was posted on July 20th so I thought it would be OK.

I enjoy researching stuff but I may have let someone down here and I feel pretty bad about it.

Given panasonics clunky and expensive effort at a 15ah effort I think the 18ah battery is very exciting subject to a reasonable price and weight.
