Hi Dynamic,

My name is Phil and I'm from OnBike.

Before you make up your mind, you may wish to also consider one of our new E-motion range of bikes?

They E-motions use the Panasonic 250w pedelec motor system with derailleur gears etc and may be of interest - feel free to have a look on OnBike - The Electric Bike Specialists and browse the E-motion range.

You would be more than welcome to come and try out the various models at either our Kidderminster branch or Presteigne branch.

Any questions, just pop me an e-mail phil@onbike.co.uk or drop me a line on 01299 25 15 14.

Best wishes

Thanks for the link Phil, the E-motion City Deluxe 700 is the style of e-bike that I have been looking for, however I think it is too late for me to place my order with you. 50-Cycles have got their systems working so I just have to wait. I can see myself purchasing a folding e-bike for my wife, she does not like cycling any more because it gives her problems with her knees. I will keep you in mind because I would like to visit Presteige - perhaps 2010:D

The other thing I forgot to mention was that the Gepida bikes had a Crank freewheel, meaning that the chain didnt move when you back pedalled, something I have never seen before.

In there brochure they also had a folding electric trike, something else I had not seen before either.

My name is Aidan from Gepida UK, part of e-bikesdirect.co.uk and would like to thank the guys from onbike for the very well organised Tour de prestige. This was the first time we have ever attended this electric bike rally and were very impressed with the amount of people that turned out for this event. And the overall enthusiasm there was for ebikes.
I don’t think I have ever seen so many home made bikes. And the Speed some of them could go.....
We displayed our “new to the UK” Gepida Pedelec - Powered by a Yamaha crank drive system and Yamaha battery, Which is available in various frame sizes. It is European manufactured and is a very prominent brand in the German and Dutch Market.

I would be very interested in people’s feedback or thoughts if they have test ridden the Gepida or if they own one. I would also welcome anyone to book an appointment for a demonstration with ourselves or one of our distributors.
We have joined the forum today to put a face to the brand (so to speak) . So we can be informative about the brand and openly discuss issues. Please contact us anytime.....
We are now starting to build a dealer network across the UK and are very keen to speak to those cycle retailers who are looking for an exciting new collection of ebikes that can be added to their current range, we will be offering an exclusive geographical area to you to service, Full dealer training is available with all the workshop manuals you could possible need. To become part of Gepida UK please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to help. aidan@e-bikesdirect.co.uk 01580 830959

Finally please watch for Gepida’s review in the next AtoB magazine......

Welcome to the forum Aiden, and best wishes for the Gepida brand in the UK. It's good to have a direct competitor
to the Panasonic unit in Yamaha's new unit which should be more successful than their old bevel drive e-bikes.

You were right in one sense that the rotation is being sensed whether going backwards or forwards, and on
many pedelec e-bikes back pedalling still enables the power.
.
Not the Wisper - it can tell the difference. I know you were not being specific, but it made me think and try it out....

I can imagine that otherwise there would be some entertainment value for anyone watching from a safe distance if you had 80% mode selected and the thing sitting in your hallway with the power on and you idly spun the pedals backwards by hand.

In my case it would probably end up in the bathroom at the top of the stairs.

Rog.

Yes, not all of them by any means. It was usually the older brush-motor e-bike designs where pedalling backwards
still operated the motor in pedelec mode.

Modern brushless motor designs like the Wisper and eZee models only seem to have sensors and controller setups
which only sense forward motion and can't be fooled, though there could be exceptions I'm unaware of.
