10-42 then you will need the xd hub as that is what it screws on to.

11-42 then it will fit on the free hub that you have.

if you went 12spd it would be 10-50 ;)

because there heavy no good for off road and jumps and bumps at 30mph ;)

they also will not fit my wheel anyway.

Thanks tommie but that's not for me.

10-42 is perfect as I can go anywhere I want in 1st gear now.

A little bit more road speed would be great so an 11 and 10 is the way forward.

These are good to go for my hard nine? Which must be the same sizes as your 27" for spindle etc.

Or do I need to ring them first to check

the only xd driver i can see that dont have the paw pins is this nuke proof one

Well, I think it's a done deal.

Now I want a 10-42

Did not know about it at lunch time, now want one at supper (scotch) time

I will look at this again tomorrow and there are presents for everyone to give me. Lucky me

Today I decided to clean the MTB.. But firstly, this isn't a competion to see who does it best, cos I know I would win hands down...
So, up in the air, wheels off and the chain into my Aldi Jewellery Cleaner....

Ah! Forgot to undo the Spider nut which isnt possible now with nothing to lever against so gunked around it with a stiff brush and rinsed it off.. Job done.
Chain and wheels back on I can now undo the lock nut and to my total dismay I find it absolutely gunged up . (after cleaning)
With the bike came a silver lock-nut without the built in Bash Ring so have replaced it with that..

Why do they fit such a thing on a bike thats meant to play in mud?

Gubbins, a word of caution in respect on using Gunk around the sprocket area..... Don't. :)

Any cleaning in that area is definitely a hand wipe down and clean only area.
The reason being is that it actually takes very little to wash the grease out from the outer bearing seal.

Very wise move ditching the sprocket guard. They cause nothing but issues.

A quick question, why is the suspension linkage/swing arm outer bearing exposed in the way that it is?

edit.. And another. How close is the gear selection cable to the chain run? It looks to be almost touching in the photo.

Normally only use gunk on the cassette and gear mech as it does a superb job there, but in this instance having forgot to undo the spider nut first I thought it might do the job.. obviously not.
I have noticed when going through some sticky splashy stuff I can hear rubbing noises for a minute or two which would seem to be that bash ring holding on to the dirt.

edit... Ah it should have a cover. :) Gubbins if you haven't removed it, you appear to be missing a cover over the exposed bearing.


SW is showing an example from the left hand side of the bike, to work out what the bearing arrangement is.

I'm curious now, and might well have to take a look at my local Scott dealer to see how the apparent through axle utilises the bearing on the sprocket side.
