Just turn the rear wheel backwards, does the same as back pedalling.
.
Yes that is a way to do it but that means, lifting it off of the floor, which means getting the stand out which is stowed away in my very small garage so I tend not to bother too much as its only a chain..
I know whats been said earlier but it only runs on the plastic jockey wheels and it doesnt seem to harm either them of the cassett/chainring.

Not quite up to your standard of cleanliness. ;)

Your bikes only look like new showroom models......

Sad part is I went out last night, little run with a bit of field and track in it, almost back to square one.

Bad part is cleaning the gears has screwed them up as I no longer have top gear and they now jump a bit, so about to study some youtube and have a play this afternoon. I think the layers of crud were crucial, my mistake.

Thank you soundwave.

It was not the washing, last weekend went riding in some difficult areas and pretty sure the mech took a hit or two along with me and everything else.

Off out to meddle.

After looking at the video a couple of times, I think the lower arm is bent in towards the wheel, so the chain is not in a straight line going through the mech.

Can't see any adjustment ?

Do you just bend it back a bit !?!? Or is now time for professional help.

Have now got the top gear back in use by adjusting the limit screw but it skips 9 no matter how much fiddling on the handle bar tension, so can ride it but it needs fixing.

is the mec hanger bent ? or the derailleur where the jockey wheels are.

you can bend it back if its not to much but it is not ideal tbh

My gears have had a good wack.

Cycling back last week was not right, when I went out last night it was dark so used the gears that were available it would just not reach no 10.

Watching the video I have adjusted the set screw no 10 came back in to play.

The bottom cog and arm was bent in to the wheel by at least 10-15 mm.

So I bent it back as I could not see any adjustment !!

Been out this afternoon and very luckily the gears are back in use with no skipping.

If it plays up again is it time for a professional to look at it or do I buy a replacement and fit it myself ?

I thought that would be the case.

Can you tell me which one to buy to fit my bike.

Think I will get one and then the next time I have a problem it will be here to fit.

Explain a bit more....

What parts are needed, does it really work.

Same top and bottom speed but one more ratio in between ?

Or is it different.

Christmas is coming ?

I like the sound of the 10-42

I am a bit slow, the top list of parts excluding the cassette to be swapped for the 10-42 then it should be a go?
