ebikes seen in Brum

Someone who works near a well known Brum chocolate factory drives (?) a very sleek, black machine. I wanted to stop him for a gossip but felt worried he might think I was a wierdo/ mugger.

Northfield Cycles sell the Izip and they are 'very popular at that price'. Never seen one on the number 5 route but I suppose you need to sit on a bench and watch people drift by to get a real idea. There's one on ebay by the way 'bargain electric bike' but on reserve price.

Saw what looked like a Powabike on a barge on the canal.

Yes slimtim
they are out there i see lots of powabykes in southampton but no other makes apart from me wizzing around 22mph on the torq i think it will be a very slow process with electric bikes also they seem to appeal to us older folks:D also most cycle shops dont seem intrested in electric bikes which is a shame:) NIGEL

Theres usually a Powabyke chained to the railings at Leicester North station (On the preserved steam operated Great Central Railway) and I've seen the same bike on the road near the station. I've seen a couple of Ezee's around Loughborough but that's about it.

I've only ever seen one electric bike out on the roads - mine. One person who asked me about my bike said they've seen one locked up at a supermarket so I know there's more out there in my area. Would be nice to meet someone else in my area with one even just to compare notes on what we think of them.

I saw a chap riding a bike in Leicester yesterday with what looked like a bolt-on Currie motor, the first of that type I've seen. I havn't seen any others of any type since my last post.

I suppose anyone who can afford a decent motorhome could easily afford a pair of Sparta's. I was on a caravan site in Cornwall the week before last, plenty of people there with £80k + motorhomes, plenty of bicycles but only one electric, and that was mine:cool:

After not having seen any other electric bikes in a few months of commuting to central london, I've spotted two Ezees in the last week! A Torq last Friday at Hyde Park Corner and a Sprint on Tuesday on the Embankment.

I'm the same as Frank, didnt see another leccy bike but my own but from last month I have seen the following:

  • A PowaByke trike - very noisy, think I heard it b4 I seen it and it was struggling up the hill (not a very steep one either !!). (by Bristol Bridge)

  • A Brite Bike GR8 folder - some massive bloke riding it and it looked well weired. (Redcliffe Quay Roundabout)

  • What looked like a PowaByke Shopper - merrily going up the hill while I was zooming down it (Bath Road)

  • A Bliss Folder - talked to the guy riding it and he wasn't impressed with its performance (by Temple Meads)

  • And today I see the strangest leccy bike ever parked in Sainsbury's - couldnt even make out the name - looked very old and had really strange parts, couldnt even see the motor or make out what battery it was but was very small - I say it was old coz it had lots of rust, then a chinese lady came out hopped on her bike.
If I see it again I will take a pic, coz I was in awe and forgot to take one on my phone  would be interesting to see if any of you could make out the make.

After not seeing any leccy bikes in Bristol then seeing that lot above is nice and I was well happy to spot them :)

I saw two today in Stratford upon Avon, both in the same street at the same time going in opposite directions. Both were clumsy looking bikes labeled Electro-Ped, not a brand I've heard of. As two previously unknown bikes in the same place and time is too much of a coincidence there was probably a demo or event going on.

PS have found out a brand called Electroped did once exist but these bikes looked brand new.

Still see mostly powabykes in southampton with a few urban movers but alas not much else also none of the local cycle shops will stock them:mad: i wonder what it will take to change the trend it would be great one day to see electric bikes everywhere all buzzing about:D

People in my area see electric bikes buzzing about everywhere. Trouble is, it's always me!

Heading for five years of e-biking now, and only ever seen one once in my area, a Twist, and that was parked.

I think the local hills must scare them too much to buy one.

Saw a Giant Suede the other day parked outside a bike shop near to the London Dungeon. Nothing else on the West London commuter run for a couple of weeks.

Not seen another electric bike in my neck of the woods yet (Bingley, West Yorkshire), though plenty of interest shown by people. About 50% seem to know that it is an electric bike & the same amount have no idea what it is, & have never heard of E-bikes. I have had no derogatory comments or looks, just enthusiastic enquiry: some are very keen.

Cheers, David.

Yes many people ask about my bike, I tell them all about it and leave them enthusiastically vowing to get one, which of course they never do.

I took my torq in to a local cycle dealer today to get the back wheel retrued not sure if that was the correct term:) and to get gears adjusted as there was a slight clicking sound when pedeling plus a new rim tape for back wheel as i explained to the dealer how to remove the battery he was very surprised how light the battery was maybe he had lifted a few powabyke batterys;) he seemed quite impressed with the torq maybe i should go to all the cycle dealers with a slight problem may be its one way to show of a electric bike:D

In the recent torrential downpours I saw an orange electric bike whizzing along in Streatham, London, just by the common. I would normally run across to chat but I didn't have my life jacket with me.

After meeting a chap on a Torq yesterday (mentioned elsewhere) I saw a bloke on a Powabyke passing the former Raleigh factory in Nottingham today. Unfortunately he was getting the two finger salute and some verbal from a car driver for no other reason than being in front and keeping up with the traffic flow.

But that's how it is in Nottingham, in my experience it's the road rage capital of the midlands.
