Lancslass...now I realise the area of UK you live in....we did a road show event on the Manifold Trail some while back, based around the little tea rooms in the middles of the trail.
You could consider contacting Leek Cycle solutions ,Leek,ST13 5HJ....the Tornado will suit your husband now that he accepts hub drive.
Alternatively,Oxygen Electric Bikes ,Goldthorpe,South Yorks,S63 9BL make some strong hill climbers,worth trying.
KudosDave
The Tornado is over our limit Dave, maybe the Cobra but we have a wider range of bikes to look at now thankfully.

Had a test ride at Juicy's today and I think I am in love - not with 'buxom Bob', although he was terribly nice, but with the Juicy Classic!
Furthermore hubby rode with me on a rear hub driven Juicy Sport and whilst he had reservations about the style of the bike, he seems converted to a hub driven bike now, so double triumph.

After much advise and help from Bob and Lee, we had a quick ride around the car park then took off for a proper test ride riding up a steep hill near the shop. The bikes handled the hill with ease and I didn't touch the throttle other than as a start assist when setting off. In fact the bike rode the hill in third gear with my feet flying round the pedals feeling like I was hardly assisting at all. Such a relief to find that the bike more than surpassed expectations.
I also love the look of the bike and it feels very well put together. I love the battery capacities that Juicy has on offer, the brakes were very efficient and I felt instantly comfortable on the bike. Bob showed us a new 2016 colour which was a lovely metallic teal and being a Pedelec member means a good deal was promised by Bob, who is now my second favourite man (sorry Bob, my lovely husband wins out every time).

I am going to force myself to test ride a couple of other bikes but I feel pretty sure that the Juicy will be hard to beat (it's nearby for aftercare, a great bike for the money, it's good value and from the forum I know that Juicy have a good reputation).

Thanks for your time and patience Bob and Lee, it was lovely to meet you.
I will make sure I keep you guys on the forum, who have helped so much, updated with what we decide to do.

NB: The term 'buxom Bob' is not a reference to his stature, but to a previous thread which involved a typo when describing Bob as the guy from Buxton!
It's always a pleasure and I'm really pleased you took the trouble to visit. I hope you find the perfect bike and of course, hope it's a Juicy!

As you are only a few miles from Valley bikes and if they could hire or provide a demo bike of a similar Juicy specification you could trial run your proposed route, preferably on a windy day, that you described earlier on in the thread.

It will give you confidence that your future purchase will fulfill all your needs, I am sure that Bob would not be offended by this.

It helps to know before starting out on a journey that the bike can complete the trip no matter what the weather can throw at you.

We are pretty sure the bear is going to be too big for both of us.
Having been on a short ride yesterday I have to agree.

At moment I can't go anywhere as I'm repairing the front light which broke on my first outing yesterday probably because of the rough road and pot-holes, currently waiting for the Araldite to set before I can put it back on the bike.

Glad you managed to find a bike you liked.

You don't sound over-chuffed with it Andy, no regrets I hope? Did you enjoy the ride?

Thanks for your interest. I am intending to go to Valley bikes next week but I am very convinced having had the test ride at Juicy yesterday that our hill is not going to be a problem for it. On the steep hill we went on, I ended up not using the throttle, in third gear with 2 out of 3 assist mode, flapping my feet around the pedals with hardly any serious input at all. There was a lot of assist left and I was not in bottom gear. Also we will be fair weather, leisure riders, being retired, and won't go out if it's windy, so that isn't really something I have to factor in. I will however ask about hire at Valley as that would be an interesting experience, so thanks for the idea.

Today we had an interesting experience whilst searching out a bike for hubby. We ventured into Halfords in Horwich, near Bolton to look at the Carrera Crossfire, which I checked was in stock before going.

We couldn't find any electric bikes there and when I asked about the Carrera I saw that rabbits in the headlight moment from the assistant. He went onto tell me that they have them in stock but no, I couldn't see it as "we don't display them".
I cast him a black look, the likes of which I have perfected and nurtured over many years of dealing with idiots and we left the store.

The Carrera with 28" wheels, we are sure would have been too big for hubby, who is 5ft 8", but it would have been nice to have taken a look at one.

He is keen on the Green Edge CS2 and there has been a favourable review of it on this forum, and at eBikes Direct where it is sold.

My mind is still very much set on the Juicy Classic with battery upgrade to 12ah to allow for plenty of energy assist if I need it!

No, no regrets, I was thinking of the weight issue, I'm only 5' 8" but stocky at 105kg, and thought your husband who is 30kg lighter would be better with a slightly less weighty bike, especially if the need arose where it needed riding without power (not something I'm looking forward to).

The ride went well, tackled the hills with ease, got back after 12 miles without even breaking a sweat nor being out of breath, going to post a review once I've done a few more miles.

That's really good news Andy, so glad you enjoyed the first ride.
I'm sure your right about the bike weight. He is currently looking at this:
http://www.e-bikesdirect.co.uk/Item/Brands/Green_Edge/Greenedge_CS2_Electric_Mountain_Bike_-_Pre_Order.aspx
Which is super light and gets good reviews at E-Bikes Direct (also looks incredible value).
Take care and don't forget, if you fancy a ride over you're always welcome.

The GreenEdge is a good bike for the money, d8veh, late of this parish, rated it which is good recommendation.

Don't take the quoted weight too seriously.

It won't be significantly lighter than the other bikes you are looking at.

I think the manufactures just pick a number when it comes to claimed weight. All the Kalkhoffs for instance are claimed to weigh the same on the websites. Irrespective of battery size or whether they have hub gears, or any other differences between models.

We have all over estimated your need to have power up hills, most of the bikes you are happy with have the SWX type motors,if that will do your job then almost any e-bike will be ok.
You mentioned the Kudos Cobra, one of my dealers has the Vita Uno 26 on special offer at the moment at £695.00 (London Electric Bike Company,Hampton Wick),it is an upgraded Cobra and fantastic value whilst stocks last.
Similarly the Woosh Petite or Kudos Tempo have the SWX motor fed through 26" wheels the torque reaction will be very strong.

Spot on.

The Juicy is no ball of fire, so from her account of the test ride, Lancslass is a stronger cyclist than she gives herself credit for.

Thus any modern ebike should do the job for her.

I tested a Juicy bike and found it as well as any I have ridden. It climbed the hill quite well, if it suits her size wise & looks it'll be fine.

This looks really interesting. Is it rear motor Dave (we know your Cobra is rear motor).

It is very similar to the Cobra, different colour scheme,it was produced especially for the LEBC,they also have the last of the Tempo bikes....at this time of year many importers are reducing their stocks, the bad weather reduces cycle sales and most will wait until the spring before restocking.

Does it come with road/track tyres or mountain bike tyres?
If it's mountain bike tyres can they be changed for us (pretty please :))? Hubby is VERY interested.

I think the Vita came with MTB tyres, the Tempo with all rounders. At the quoted price there is no margin to pay for different tyres but these could be changed at cost.
You need to discuss with LEBC.

Hi, Just concerned that your return journey involves a steeper albeit shorter climb on a battery that has already had a 3 mile climb taken out of it.
