Road bike takes away some of the satisfaction of reaching your goals. (The Cafe at Burnsall in my case) and could possibly make the road bike trips feel a bit pointless. Maybe suffering is the point of road bikes. What's your view.
I doubt you'll find anyone here who has that point of view. I never once think ooh I could have done the ride I've just done with a 4 mph lower average speed and some nasty grovelling on the limit climbing that I'm not keen to ever do again.
I just think that was a nice ride and I look forward to the next time I do it. and I love my pedelec and what it allows me to do.

Phill, I think this bike looks great and I could be interested in one. Is the bike they are getting in a test bike because if that's the case I would also like to have a test ride it. The idea of a powered Road bike is great but after reading the review I have some sympathy with the reviewer that a powered Road bike takes away some of the satisfaction of reaching your goals. (The Cafe at Burnsall in my case) and could possibly make the road bike trips feel a bit pointless. Maybe suffering is the point of road bikes. What's your view.
I agree in part..to me it feels empowering to ride an unpowered bike at speed or up a big incline and the newer lightweight bikes do make this easier, but after the ride up cringles I am wet through with sweat and have expended a good portion of my available energy. I go for it on the Kildwick straight strava segment giving it absolutely everything I have pedaling in excess of 30mph which puts my hr in the 170's and I am at the railway crossing before I am recovered enough to get going again. I consider this enjoyable.. sort of.. providing it's not windy!
The idea of an e-road bike brings something different to the table.. forget the high speed dashes and coming home wet through and think about a more leisurely ride of greater distance..
If you mean Ilkley cycles then they have one in the window that they let me have a test ride on, but they don't have a demonstrator that you can borrow for the weekend.

Hi Phill, I'm with you on the getting home wet and knackered and the idea of a powered Road does appeal. Have you had your test ride and what's the verdict.

After a short test ride it seemed a no brainer so bike is on order and am awaiting the nod to go get it. Hopefully this weekend as they say it's uk stock...

Hi, I'm not denigrating any form of e-bike I absolutely love my e-mtb it gets me to places and on runs, trails and tracks that would be hard for a fit 25 year old. I was comparing a very lightweight Road bike with a powered equivalent and pondering on the riding experience. And believe it or not roadies do consider suffering as part of the experience

I used to ride a road bike to work when I was a young man because it was quicker than going in the car at those times of day. I even came home for lunch which meant over 30 km a day 5 days a week.

I can see a road bike taking the edge off the hills and the windy days for an older rider who cycles for exercise but where do you put the shopping? So I'll stick with the Quick-e.

Hi Phill, New bike looks and sounds absolutely fantastic. I never made it to Ilkley Cycles on Saturday as I had stern word with myself about do I really need another bike adding to my collection so for now the E-road bike is on hold. But I may weaken when you start posing details of your rides. Enjoy!

Know exactly what you mean.. My stern words dont carry much weight but the wifes do!!
I decided I needed 2 bikes, one for off and one for on, so sold 2 of my 3 to buy this one to make 2.
Well, that's how I justify it anyway...

After my stern words with myself I needed to get out on my bike. Took out the Haibike out and thought it would be a good idea to see how far I could get unpowered! I did 15 miles and 900ft ascent.. Turned the power back on for the last 5 miles and 550ft of ascent but will try for a bit further each ride. It was quite enjoyable once I got used to the weight of the unpowered bike.

And the speed.. or lack of it.. I must admit to considering that with my new bike. Just toottle along without the help..

Those of us who have a pedelec as means of transport disapprove this multi bike hoarding! :D

But seriously once I have ironed out the wrinkles on my current steed I just happen to have a spare 26" hub motor laying about in the shed...

Cargo trike or folder? Early days yet but a bike for everyday use and another specialized bike for moving stuff or going further afield is definitely on the cards here.

Having two bikes is greener than having a car or two, we all have our pretexts
