I went along to the Open Day at the new premises near the MetroCentre Gateshead last week (it's only a 15 minute trip for me) and I was very very impressed - I had to get out before I succumbed to temptation.

This is now getting rather ridiculous....We all make choices on what we spend our money on, some are happy to buy a real budget e bike but insist on driving a BMW or the like. Others have difffernt prioroties and are prepared to spend more on an E bike. but a "unlimited budget" category turns this poll into a joke IMO

These polls aren't very meaningful, especially the e-Bike of the year vote. I think most users of the site don't have sufficient experience of the range of bikes available to enable them to make an informed decision. There are exceptions of course, as some owners have experienced a wide variety of bike types.

Actually, the limitless budget vote will reveal the most desirable bike and perhaps if a bike is highly desirable, then that might be a better indication of the true e-Bike of the year.

Anyway, it's all a bit of Christmas fun and nothing to get excited about.

This is a strange poll! If money is no object, I'd have though that every bike nominated would probably be the very top of the range model from the respective manufacturer?

Oddly, up to the time of writing, I note that the Ezee Torque 11 has attracted no votes at all yet I suspect it's probably a more accomplished machine than many of the others listed.

When I look at the voting trends in these polls we do from time to time, it's not difficult to understand why we end up with a government like the clowns now esconced in Westminster following a general election. There's nowt as queer as folk.

Nominations were asked for previously to make up the list bigroy. No-one posted a nomination for Alien, which is why they aren't there, not discrimination, just neglect to post in support by their owners.

I'm a bit confused about the two polls currently running. One is for bike of the year, OK, got that. But then this one is for bike of the year if money was no object, but instead of having a nominations list for this 2nd poll, it is using the nominations from the 1st poll.

Clearly this is wrong, we should have a nominations period to decide the list of bikes that we could vote for if money was no object, I would have liked to have seen the Swiss Flyer X Series and the Optibike as nominations plus a Cytronex Super Six, then I would have to think long and hard before placing a vote!

Now we just have a bunch of bikes with no real 'money no object' exotica to choose from, they are all in the affordable range!

Perhaps I'm missing something but if money's no object, why do so many contributors have such low aspirations.....? I ask you!

I guess they're voting for the Storck because they've never had the chance to ride a Cyclamatic Power Plus.

I didn't leave the nominations open for long, only a few days. With hindsight, the nominations phase would have benefitted from being open for a week.

It's difficult to judge what's right in this. If nominations were open for a long period it could capture some of those who only came in very infrequently, but they can also be the ones who are not up to date on the scene's current bikes so might be too baffled to vote.

Well,
I suppose it is what kind of e-cyclist you are.
To me, the Storkk is not what I want and I wouldn't buy it if it was only £500.
a No suspension
b Uncomfortable riding position, (Not upright)
c Hub motor (Getting really dated now)
d Battery is only 260 watts.
e. Battery is odd shape, difficult to replace in years to come. No 'kettle' plug which is easily and cheaply repaired when contacts burn etc.

On the other hand, I can see someone who is more of a pedal cyclist would love the light weight, beautiful frame joints, streamlined riding position, and not want too much electricity. (But they claim up to 60 miles??)

Hub motor (Getting really dated now)
This one is about the newest around and is quite sophisticated. In areas with a mix of flat and moderate slopes a hub motor is preferable to a crank drive system. In that sort of territory it can often outperform crank drive bikes, without the complexity and without the transmission wear. We need both systems available to suit all areas and usage.
