You can. You won't feel much drag from the motor.

Hi Guys,

So I finally fitted the screen and battery, took it for a ride, the motor is fabulous but my chain won't shift gears and I hear a clank side from the chain when I ride. So I haven't really pushed the bike, had to ride slow didn't want to break anything.

Has anyone experienced this please, how can i rectify.

Display should be at the center of handlebars.
Remove shifter and cable from front derailer.
Tidy up rear derailer cable.

Yes, the screen should be, but I haven't fitted it properly just wanted to take it for a test ride then I'd sort the cables and I wanted to decide what to do about the brake levers currently but they are perfect and I don't want to change.

I'd watch the video now and give you feedback Az. You the man, you made me do this myself haha. Thank you for that. Also with the right tools this doesn't take long at all. Well, live and learn.

Also did you fit the throttle to yours?

You messed up rear derailer. You shouldn't really touch this cable at all. It is fixable, but you added yourself an unnecessary work.

No, I didn't install throttle.

You not only installed kit yourself and saved money, but now you should be able to fix stuff in the future.

Your gear cable is flapping around, so of course the gears won't change.

Didn't it used to go under the bottom bracket, so had to move to fit the motor?

All it needs is a full length new outer cable, and you may need a new inner because cut ends often will not go through.

Plus some cable ties to tidy it up.

Easy to fix!

So, after watching that video, I have to say I completely messed up the whole thing haha But I got someone to help fix it, for now it's good but not perfect, I still hear the clang like the chain skipping sometimes when I switch gears or about to set off, but afterwards i dont hear it. Any ideas guys?

I rode yesterday and I loved it, I didn't break a sweat once. At full speed though I can feel the motor cut out but at lower speeds not so much. The motor runs good and its quiet. I'm still thinking of fitting the throttle for that boost, Andy says I'd need more sensors for that.

@Az. wild I took you up on your DIY talk, thank you for that, i loved the process. it's easy to fit this motor and it's easy to set up with the right tools.

Thank you everyone for your inputs and suggestions as well, glad I found this site.20240617_181137.jpg20240617_192540.jpg20240617_181155.jpg

I'd tidy up those dangly wires. Anything that can get pulled, will get pulled.

Well done mate.

You see how you have that cable running down the side of your downtube held on with black tape?

I found a way to make things a bit tidier.

I bought some of these desk cable clips from eBay, but I ditched the thick white sticky pads and bought some 3M, thin, transparent double-sided tape and stuck the clips on the underside of the downtube.

Hello everyone,

100 miles in!

First off am glad i found this site and i took you guys advice. My bike is a different machine entirely.

Special s/o to @Az. for telling me to DIY and recomending the motor. The TSDZ8 motor is fantastic @Woosh. I also fitted the throttle cos why not haha I love it. Thanks everyone for your inputs and guidance through this process.

Happy I stuck with my Subway frame for a start too, I have spent the last few days exploring some bike trails nearby and I'm gearing up for a switch to a proper MTB frame and do more off road cos with this motor, I mean why not. It's too good.
