Well there goes my attempt to get you to see things in context. You are as ever disingenuously trying very hard to put labour/corbyn/starmer in the frame while pretending not to do so. I give up, I think you either do not want to or cannot see the bigger picture
Not quite Jonathon. I could agree with you over Champion thing, but then we, d both be wrong wouldn't we.
Champion was sacked/forced to resign over her comments about girls being abused by gangs of men. Your comments about EU are anochronic, irrelevant and nothing at all to do with the conversation, and are merely your attempts to pretend to know more than you do about the subject.
Your own link says exactly what happened. In this case there is no bigger picture and as you can't read wiki, neither can you read my posts. For the first time I have actually defended Starmer over this, but as normal, that doesn't suit your critical narrative of my opinion, so it's ignored. Grow up Jonathon. Put the bias down, you are making yourself look silly on this one.
The link you supplied contradicts your stance.
My last comment on the subject. Good night Jonathon.

You are taking this very, very seriously, my dear fellow forumite. Relax. I do not read posts or wiki entries in detail. I do not have enough time (20 months from early retirement, burying nuts as fast as I can thing). It's a thread on an ebike forum. Not the executive branch of the Spanish inquisition.
PS what IS anochronic?

the police knew about Jimmy Savile since 1964.
Numerous complaints were logged with different forces but they are not linked together until after his death. Mistakes were mainly with the police, may be they were influenced by his status and people who were his friends.
The paedophile information exchange was only disbanded in the early 80s, believe it or not. The time when Maggie and Ronald openly defended the apartheid regime. Its odd, we live as if the world's always been the egalitarian sort off conscientious place it is now, when recently it was decidedly more unhinged.

A typo. Anachronic.

Example, saying something happened in 2016 when it actually happened in 2017 and then deciding it was a single event. An error in timing. Anachronism. From Latin. Chrono... Time.. Ana... Error, wrong, misplaced. A word you should recognise Jonathon.

As for inquisition, it was you correcting my factually correct posting.... Wrongly.
Perhaps you should practice what you preach.

You do have a point (about me being critical of you) even if being accused of living in the past by a brexit/boris supporter seem a bit rich

Around about 1964, I was at primary school. We had a visit by a police person who had spent a week or two with Savile. It was presented as "lucky me - I met this television star". I didn't like him then. Nor at any time since. It was a combination of going to a boarding school and his frequent appearances that ended my watching Top of the Pops.

Do you remember, I think it might have been a segment of Nationwide, where he travelled around in a car with a double mattress in the back? I found that odd even then.
How was boarding school? A mate who says he was thoroughly screwed up by his experience, is busy writing a refutation of this:

...said "Only about 20% were completely broken by the experience." Every former boarding school inmate I've ever met thus far, have been... odd.

Right now, just 34% of our electricity is being generated using gas. The wholesale price of electricity is about 25% of the costs which makes up our electricity bill. So as of now, gas costs make up .25 x .34 (8.5%) of our electricity bill. I assume the wholesale price of wind, water flowing downhill and uranium hasn’t increased much.

So if the rise in world gas prices only accounts for 8.5% of the electricity cost, why the big 54% rise? Where are the benefits of the green tax on our bills? Why aren’t the windmills going to save us?

I didn't say you were living in past at all, you obviously are not. You made an error over the Champion /Corbyn episode and combined 2 events (her resigning twice) into a single one.. The two events were a year apart, perhaps indirectly linked but the crux of situation was Champion was sacked, essentially for speaking the truth. Whether we agree or disagree with the outcome is irrelevant but claiming issue somehow didn't happen fails to see all the problems Labour leaders have at moment. He was in wrong if he sacked her, he was in wrong if he didn't.
Starmer is now in a similar position. He must decide who he actually represents. Corbyn decided and it led to his downfall.
Tories don't seem to suffer the same punishment for ideology. Perhaps because they have none.???They bend as trees do in the wind. Labour stick to whatever principle popular with controlling powers ( currently wokism, it was racism for Corbyn) and get broken.
Failing to recognise what's happening is part of the problem for Labour and its supporters. In fact, all of us.

that's the consequence of privatisation of British Gas, National Power and Powergen.
We now have the law of the jungle.
Our government is so lazy that they subcontract out the tax collecting to private firms, they have no interest in controlling price rise.
When France caps the price hike to 4% in 2022, we have 54% instead.
Energy companies are free to inflate any price rise, helped by a government that guarantees them a profit at the end of every 6 months.

My circumstances were already difficult, so assessing how much was due to boarding school and how much everything else is pretty much impossible.

Boarding schools can be devastating. But there is, I suggest, a big difference between going at 13 from a healthy, happy home background, and going at 6 from an uncaring home. (Mine was neither extreme.)

If we had British Gas, that represents one customer for gas. Sure, competition from other countries.

Having multiple suppliers, they are having to compete against each other for what gas is available. Which, I suspect, makes the UK gas price rather more volatile.

If you sup with the devil...

Billionaire Tory donor calls for Boris Johnson to resign
John Armitage, who has given £3.1m to the Conservatives, says PM has gone ’past the point of no return’

Not particularly this individual, but if your party relies on a modest number of big donors, you become beholden. Thus granting them an exceptional, and exceptionable, amount of power.

Far better to have many small donors if you don't want to toe the donors' lines.

You need to look again at how the dynamic spot market for electricity operates .. it works on 30 minute intervals . Basically the Central Grid Operator, sends out tenders and each producer sends back their offer ..as in "I will supply 100 MW at 30 quid per Mw.hr. from my windfarm" . And another might say " 500MW at 45quid from my Gas Turbines ", and another at "600MW at 25 quid per Mw.hr. from my Coal fired .. Now say the total demand estimated was 560 MW in that time frames, well suppliers 1 and 3 get paid at 30 quid , and supplier 2 gets nothing. But an hour later , it's breakfast, and the system demand is 1000 MW then all three suppliers get paid at a rate of 45 quid. So its a real bonanza for the Coal fired guy, and wind farm. So basically even if only 1% of the Grid used expensive gas, It still sets the floor price.
The critical thing is that the Grid cannot be allowed to run short ,so it must always buy more than it needs in the next period..otherwise it hits huge fines. And of course there are huge penalties for any supplier who fails to meet their contracted amount .. eg if the Windfarm was only able to supply 85MW when they had promised 100.

customers are encouraged to switch suppliers to escape rip-offs. The consequence of that is a plethora of marketing companies selling themselves as energy providers, short termed investors looking for a quick buck without any industrial capabilities. Nobody wants to look after the storage capacity because it's long term investment.
Now the brexiters are firmly in charge, we can look forward to more of the same, I think Starmer should suggest investing in a national energy storage grid.

The big buys such as BP are now getting into that game now.

instead of a windfall tax, I would

my suggestion to Labour is to invest in a national energy storage grid. it will increasingly become a key energy provider and the profit could be used to offset spikes in international market prices.
Ordinary people can understand this strategy.
