Public dissatisfaction of the Tories has been proportional to Covid cases, a short term bounce for Labour - they need to step up their game with seeminly sensible policies and image/mirage to fool Zlatan into believing they're a credible government in waiting, as Turgid BJ phallaciously did. I've got a horrible feeling that Herr Starmer is yet another caretaker Labour leader, with no chance of leading Labour to victory. Let's face it: Scottish independence has destroyed Labour's chances for good. It's depressing. Mind you, Starmer seems like the sort of duplicitous pragmatic sh*t, who might choose to form a coalition with the SNP.

Well it was a lovely Spring day, so we travelled to the Village of Carlingford. 28 km distance. which is the tip of the EU and looked across at the UK. Often voted as the most attractive village in the country and a Mecca for Hen parties at weekends, it has a pretend Fjord... It looks like a Fjord, but is actually the gouged outlet from a glacier. The Mournes are to the North and the Cooley Mts ..really hills to the South.
Now the wind would blow one out of it , but otherwise lovely. It was a fully functioning middle ages town with multiple castles , Priories, Abbey, Mint dating from 13 century Norman expansion

Looks and sounds lovely - I'd have been just another annoying tourist, snapping away with my camera, muttering in Japanese (which I'd have to learn, because I'm not Japanese) about F stops, exposures, camera firmware complaints etc. etc. Such narrow streets are a fire risk, have they learned nothing from the Great Fire of London? Did you feast later on, or was there a picnic basket full of delicious goodies? I suddenly feel like cycling to hills today.... (Glad you're not Pagan, there may have been mention of human sacrifice or something - bit of a mood killer [for non-Pagans])

I lost sales to EU customers but gained in competitors like Aliexpress, PWSpower etc having to charge VAT and import duty that they previously were able to evade.
My immediate problem is my age. I need to find someone to takeover my job.
It's a part time job but still needs to be filled.

There is only so much that the party gate can boost support for Labour. Last week's polls showed consolidation of Labour's recent gain. Their lead was reduced to 5% but after PMQ, grew again to 8%. I am pretty sure that the Gray's report will add one or two percents to their lead. The key point is, the momentum is with Labour since last November. One thing is probable, Johnson won't be PM for very long. The knives will be out in time for the next election.
If their lead is maintained until then, Labour will form the next government and Starmer will be the next PM. Pehaps you and many traditional Labour voters in the North would change your view in time.

I guess in Starmer's case, the need to show decency and integrity stops him making big promises, the usual stuff easy to say but not deliver. It's a bit like bikes' weight really.

You might be right but doubt it Woosh. Starmer has upset many in Northern towns around the Muslim gangs issue a few years ago,but generally folk have short memories if there are benefits elsewhere.
On the import issue from abroad.. I often buy specialist water sport equipment. (custom built Windsurf boards, custom Water skis/wake boards,foil boards. currently in dispute with a big missing shipment from China, which is another issue)
I was expecting a big price hike with stuff from Slovenia. Mechanism has altered (no Vat at their end, Vat charged on entry but then 1% on import tax)
Made absolutely no difference to sales. Folk willing to pay £2500 for a Custom Carbon windsurf board (designed and built to their own spec) don't care about the extra 1%..Its irrelevant at that place in market.
But the delays with stuff from China they won't tolerate. (Carbon Foil boards 4 months wait now and still not arrived stuff from Slovenia built and despatched in 12 days)???

you are lucky that your business does not suffer from manufacturing and shipping delay.
Buying anything from China is another matter. 4 months leadtime for your foil boards does not seem exaggerated, add to that, shipping by sea now takes 1 month longer compared to pre-covid time.

Agreed I,m in dispute with suppliers at moment. Could cope with 3 months but 4 plus with no definite date makes logistics almost impossible. Had no issues at all with stuff from within EU??? (few bits and pieces from Germany, bulk from Slovenia and on stuff I deal with negligible price increase)
Giving up on Foil boards. Too expensive from France and not arriving from China?? No idea whats going on.??

that's due to XMAS holiday, a lot of stats were not published on time and lumped later with more recent stats.
I was hospitalised a few days only two weeks ago, I can assure you that the queues for treatment were long. They swab you on the first day of admission for covid. Southend general has two CT scanners, both were running 24x7.

I got a persistent throbbing and localised headache for 3 weeks.
I hardly ever have a headache, even when having a bad cold.
On the third day, the threat of a lumbar puncture cured it so they let me out. That or hospital food, I can't say for sure. One thing for sure, I over indulged during the Christmas and New Year holiday.

I seem to have met more genuinely shameless people than most, must have been the company I kept. Were they sociopaths or psychopaths? Sort of capturing, strapping them to chairs to conduct psychological tests, I can but speculate.
