I've just watched the latest video from Dr. John Campbell, he is still optimistic that Omicron could mean the end of the pandemic for us all. He mentioned a works party that took place in a hotel in Norway 15 days ago. A company had 120 employees attend, two of these employees had recently been to South Africa, one of which came back with the Omicron variant.

It looks like the event became a super spreader, of the 120 employees, 70 came down with the virus plus another 50 people who were in the hotel at the time of the party.

So far this sounds like fairly bad news however, 15 days after this event not one of the people who got infected that night has ended up in hospital.

He has also been getting feedback from people who have had Omicron and the symptoms are fairly mild these include.

Fatigue
Aching joints
Headache
Slight sore throat.

You do not get a cough or runny nose.

These seem to last for about 3 days.

Virtually all cases in South Africa now were Omicron, Delta has all but disappeared from there.

The only bit of data that he was slightly concerned about was that there had been a slight increase in deaths in South Africa, but it was not known if these were Covid related.

Just what will Geidt decide to do?

Boris Johnson’s standards adviser on brink of quitting over Downing Street flat

Lord Geidt considering his position after Prime Minister allegedly misled him over refurbishment

I wonder if his upset is as much for our benefit as boris' in hoc about the parties. In other news "The I" think liz "in December I'll open pork markets in beijing" truss may be our next leader

To quantify, it seems to cause approximately half as many serious admissions as delta - in SA's young (but quite hiv+) population
With a much higher infection (and reinfection) rate in an older population (uk) this could nonetheless cause significant admissions

Were these Norwegians previously vaccinated?. That is the critical question.

There is contradictory evidence emerging from SA. Hospitals still reporting no deaths from Omicron but government figures showing exceptionally high excess deaths, increasing in proportion to Omicron infection rate.
As JA says the faster spread and apparent much increased potential to infect could see NHS overwhelmed with the smaller percentage at high risk...
Seems to me Omicron is perhaps better as far as individuals are concerned but worse for nation. Its apparent milder symptoms for most along with our Governments stupid behaviour will, I suspect, see many more ignoring instructions and refusing jab.
The refusniks I know are actually more convinced than ever..
Their feeling is vaccine doesn't work so what's point... One says he not had any, needs 3 to get covered by which time if he really needed them... He, d be dead anyway. He has a point. Starting from no vaccine to having had 3? How long for that to cover Omicron? 9 months or so?
I did suggest he better get started then. The sooner the better, but couldn't answer his theory.

I posted the info about the Norway super spreader event on another site here is one of the replies.

' I believe the other 50 people that were in the hotel were using the restaurant AFTER the party had finished their meal.
This is because the virus is airborne and hangs in the air for hours (it is not person2person transmission).

Also read report of a case where someone in a hotel was infected whilst staying in a different room opposite an infected persons room - again it is airborne. '

What do you folks think, is it possible that the virus can hang in the air for hours in a room, if so would that explain why it seems to be spreading so quickly?

In moist, winter air, far more likely to survive than is dry, warm or hot air. What is it like in Norway at this time of year? :)

Will Johnson survive? Looking at the line of hopefuls circling, I’m starting to hope he does and thus guarantee defeat at the next election.

Giveaway Sunak, good grief.

Liz Truss. If ever there was a face fit for the Devil to do a wet fart in, this is it.
I think an awful lot could depend on Geidt.

If he goes, Johnson will find it very difficult to hang on. And Geidt is now in a position where he has to say whether or not he is staying. I suggest in the next few hours something has to be said.

Anybody else think WHO have been utterly useless during pandemic.
Always give advice post event.. Originally said travel had been responsible for spreading Covid(you don't say) and that corridors should have bern closed earlier. Shouldn't they have told everybody that when it could have done something.
Their spokes person always tries to look smart but relaxed, relaxed like a bloke late for interview because he, d had to change wheel on his Porsche and left his top button on done to tell everybody.
Came on other day and said"Omicron had changed direction of Pandemic".. With no explanation of which way... But day before they were saying we should be reinstating all travel across borders.
Seems to me to be a toothless useless organisation. Either give it some clout or close it.

I think if I was a Labour strategist I would think the best chance they have of winning the next election is if the Tories go into it with Boris still as their leader.

I think I have posted before, one thing you have to say about the Conservatives is they are completely ruthless when it comes to their leaders, if they think they can't win the next election because of Boris they will swiftly get rid of him.

Omicron hasn't really hit here yet so below are the current numbers in my areas of interest put on record before it does. They can be compared later if and when it does.

They make it look like the vaccines cause death, but of course that isn't the case. It's simply a comparison of the effectiveness of immunity from prior infection of the earliest hardest hit Covid areas, showing that it is at least as effective as vaccination, something now officially accepted here. As you'll know from my earlier posts on this the figures are very consistent:

UK . . . . . with 1st and 2nd vaccines: 81% - - Death Rate: 1.1 per 100k.

London . with 1st and 2nd vaccines: 74% - - Death Rate: 0.8 per 100k.

Croydon . with 1st and 2nd vaccines: 61% - - Death Rate: 0.5 per 100k.

Lambeth with 1st and 2nd vaccines: 59% - - Death Rate: 0.3 per 100k.

Hadn't noticed this poll until just now:

Labour Lead Extends to 6 Points as Public Takes Dim View of Illegal Party Allegations

A new Survation poll for tomorrow’s Daily Mirror, conducted today & yesterday has Labour on 40%, their highest in a Survation poll since January 2019. The Conservatives, at 34% in today’s poll mark the lowest recorded in a Survation poll since Boris Johnson became leader in July 2019.

In terms of vote share, were these types of figures seen at the next General Election a Labour lead of this size would easily make Labour the largest party in the Commons with over 300 seats, albeit short of an overall majority.

the virus can hang in the air and stay potent for days or weeks even, or it just stay dormant.
BTW, the 1918 Spanish flu was reconstructed by Dr Terrence Tumpey in 2005 at the CDC. It's kept under lock and key so nobody can use it.

Zlatan..... You need to go a little deeper. Look at the WHO DAILY bulletins, There are new potential epidemics from all the golden oldies nearly every day, and the vast majority are snuffed out at a local level. The Covid is literally the one that got away, and it got away because its mode of transmission was unusual . .. people were infectious BEFORE they even felt bad..
Regarding Omicron, what did you expect him to say?.... What he actually said was the truth. The only thing he knew with some certainty was that it had multiple variations compared with Delta...and that it was more transmissible.
Now you constantly complain about organisations which are not authoritarian, without accepting that Nation States ,including all 220 are each sovereign. Organisations including the UN IMO, EU can only move on anything with the AGREEMENT of their members.
