So they are still plugging away at ICE pretty strongly.
I think an important factor is that Toyota are very strong in third world markets where the electric infrastructure is poor, making their IC side very important for a long time yet. But I'm sure they'll also be no sluggard with pure e-cars as 2030 approaches.

I certainly agree from where we are now, hybrids for PO wouldn't be sensible.

But a lot of the vans are not very old and I'd be fairly confident that a hybrid petrol of the same vintage would have cost no more to run than a diesel - at least, in the mode of use I most often see.
Just look at the fuel and high maintenance costs of hybrids, even their relatively new vans will soon be on the second hand market or scrap heap. Royal Mail pure e-vans will save them a fortune.

Less brake pad wear, clutchless, gentler transmission, not wholly convinced.

Not just those, it's chalk and cheese, there's no comparison. Plug in hybrids have all the IC maintenance costs in addition, that makes no sense at all.

Add 150 mpg for Royal Mail e-vans, cutting their fuel costs by 80%, and e-vans are the only way to go for them.

I never ever liked the noise.. not just in my dotage. The only thing worse is the high speed whine of a high speed electric motor ..brush noise.
Yep, my grand mother was same. She didn't like engine noise of any kind... Saying you don't like the noise of a V10 Renault, an Inter Norton, a velocette ktt mk 8 or any flat 6 Porsche is like saying you don't like life itself... Sacrilege.
Listen to this and say you don't like the noise. I wouldn't believe you.

Where I used to live most taxis were Priuses. On one occasion, the driver was explaining most were converted to LPG and they achieved pretty amazing economy. Not entirely sure I believed the numbers.

In Edinburgh, at Waverley, there is a down ramp for taxis. Which means that instead of having to start the engine every few minutes to move towards the pick-up point, they could just roll. (Probably illegal - especially with servo-assisted brakes.) Much, much cleaner than starting engines repeatedly. Anywhere that very short moves, and waits, occur, hybrid can justify itself over pure ICE. I really don't understand why we don't see almost all Post Office vans in hybrid form. Certainly round here, they drive up, stop, switch off, deliver to one or two houses. Jump back in, start and drive for a few more yards. Often a nice belch of diesel smoke as they go. (Some posties walk much further than others. And I do understand where there is significant weight to carry.)
I see that a lot of our postal vans .. called using extreme originality An Post are now full electric.

A Brief Political History of Wall-paper

Cost of wallpaper (2012)
Request

The maximum cost of the different rolls of wallpaper used in the recent renovations
Response

There has been one purchase of wallpaper in the last three years. This was for 60 rolls of Tudor badge wallpaper in the year 2011/12 costing a total of £4,800. Wherever possible, it is sought to replicate original interiors of the Palace of Westminster in order to maintain the heritage of the historic Royal palace.

https://www.parliament.uk/site-information/foi/foi-and-eir/commons-foi-disclosures/estates-information/cost-of-wallpaper/

That works out at just £80 a roll.

Derry Irvine may be a first-class lawyer, but when it comes to politics he definitely belongs in the B-team. His political tin ear has been one of the more consistent features of this Labour government.

He got things off to a quick start with his authorisation of £650,000 of redecoration expenses for the lord chancellor's official residence - including Pugin wallpaper priced at £350 a roll - and compounded the error by snobbishly suggesting he could hardly kit out his quarters with any old rubbish from B & Q. He was soon comparing himself to Cardinal Wolsey, not realising how badly that would play with an electorate already suspicious of the arrogance of politicians. And more recently he provoked cries of cronyism and discrimination after hiring a chum to fill a top job that had never been advertised.

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2001/feb/20/labour.lords

So, £840 per roll does appear very expensive indeed. I checked out some flock Pugin wallpaper such as might be used in some parts and it was just £170 a roll. Of course, width and length are also part of the equation:

Wallpaper Length10m
Wallpaper Width52 cm

Did they include that in their northern Ireland edition? I wonder how it would play there.

I think you meant: Der Stürmer! :)

Wonder if they fitted nice noisy exhausts to those sublime V8s. Shelby Mustangs on my list of desirable, anti social cars..That uneven pulse from yank V8s (and Harleys) is great..
Harley tried to patent noise of their V twin... But couldn't, so patented engineering design which gives it... Correct angle between cylinders and common crank pin.. Its why they sound different to all the other V twins.. Great aswell. 3 wheeler Morgan somehow loses it tho?? (SS vtwin is development of Harley)

Scraping barrel for something interesting on here... We, ve reached rock bottom with wall paper.
Please stop quoting Guardian. Its utter rubbish, biased, prejuduced and actually worse than mail... Which takes some doing.
And, who cares how much his flat cost. Country has just borrowed around £300 billion and best Guardian can come up with is expensive wall paper. Give us a break.

How much credence to an article which includes "120 volts of power " and "480 volts of direct current"?

But it is painfully obvious that infrastructure is a major issue. But USA's 120V certainly doesn't help. Nor does it being a two tonne (nearly enough) SUV help.

The real Morgan three-wheeler used a variety of engines including Ford pop, and what I consider the classic, Jap V-twin.

Yep, and BSA. Never saw one with Ford pop but I, ll believe you..
The best without a doubt is new one with space frame chassis, SS V twin and Mazda MX5 gearbox... Its a cracking car but silly price..
They do an electric version, which sort of spoils the broth.. Its horrid.
By the way, the new one is just as real. Its not virtual.. Its probably Morgan's best car...Its bang upto date but with a heritage behind it. I, d have one over plus 4 any day. Great fun to drive, opposite locks way earlier. Fantastic. Went to factory couple of years ago.. Went in one and Aero8. Preferred 3 wheeler. But not paying that price... Don't depreciate much tho.

The Morgan F-4 was introduced in 1933 at the Olympia Motor Cycle Show. The F-4 had a new pressed-steel chassis the four-cylinder Ford Sidevalve engine used in the Model Y, and a four-seat body.

Not all Morgans had the J.A.P. engine though, there were the Matchless engined ones, MX2 air cooled and the best one, the MX4 water cooled. I always though the Brough Superior with the MX2 engine was the best one too.

However I don't like the sound of any of the V twins, or American V8s, or twins of any variety. Or singles, I definitely dislike the sound of the Manx Norton. Give me the howl of the Gilera four anytime, I'm definitely a multi-cylinder fan in locations where noise is appropriate like race tracks.

The worst of all sounds? Definitely Formula E, I can't stand to watch it and endure that horrible discordant whining. Motor sport for the chronically deaf.

That's not a Ford Pop tho.. Ford Pop was introduced in 1953...with a side valve engine but not same as in models from 1933..I think... Not certain but don't think Ford had a model called "Pop" in early days.

What a stupid anti e-car article, I quote from it:

"In roughly three minutes, you can fill the gas tank of a Ford Mustang and have enough range to go about 300 miles with its V8 engine.

But for the electric Mustang Mach-E, an hour plugged into a household outlet gave Bloomberg automotive analyst Kevin Tynan just three miles of range."

He's no auto-analyst, he's an idiot.

Nobody charges an e-car from a household outlet and expects it to be fast, the comparison with the gas tank is with an ultra fast charger or one of Tesla's latest chargers, and California has lots of both. And of course most of the world's countries are far smaller than the USA with it's long distances.

Not the Pop from Ford, that was the Ford Popular, a down market one from the Prefect and Anglia.

I've always ignored the Ford engined Morgan 3 wheeler as not being a proper Morgan 3 wheeler at all, just a car with a wheel missing.
