BREAKING Boris Johnson axes plan for White House-style TV briefings after spending £2.6m on venue
Well at least that's sort of good news, but it depends how much it fetches on Ebay, he can cough up the rest himself
Well, I expect some Tory donors will have done well out of the£2.6m which is the main thing.

Remember the Dyson/ ventilator scam?

Here are the texts between Boris Johnson and businessman Sir James Dyson from March 2020. Mr Johnson says he will ‘fix’ the tax system for Dyson’s employees...

Strange that existing manufacturers were not contacted but this phony so called inventor was , and since when can the PM fix taxes like this?

Even if exceptional circumstances required exceptional measures, they should not have been implemented behind closed doors, in private communications.

I wonder if any other companies did NOT get such treatment? Maybe they will start shouting?

The New European (TNE) had an article 'Vaccine row shifts opinions over brexit' last week showing how the vaccine has boosted support for Brexit and Johnson.
Back in January before the vaccine row, support for brexit (ie was UK right to vote for brexit) was at 40%, the row moved it to 46%.
Accordingly, support for Johnson ('Johnson would make the best PM') went from 26% to 46% in the same period.
All based on the misunderstanding of the issue of bood clots. Since our own vaccine authorities banned the AZ for young people, the trend starts to reverse.
I wonder if the BBC was doing the work for Johnson.

Do people really change their minds so fluidly?

I certainly have not changed my opinion of Johnson in many years. Well, in detail, maybe. But my overall opinion has only sunk a bit. But given by how low it already was, sinking any further is quite an achievement.

yes, one out of five did for Johnson's approval rating.
The less time you have to look into the details, the more likely you'll change your views.

Why?
Local and existing ventilator manufacturers who approached the government were ignored, but this bogus investor with no experience was tasked with the job, and even offered tax incentives.
Then when he did come up with one it was defective
You are sounding more Tory every day

It's Starmer trying to score points.. Move on... Nothing to see here..
This is problem with Starmer, picks fights nobody really cares about. Boris will just say he was trying to help save lives... Offering incentives or whatever.
This won't stick or effect BJ's popularity.
And BJ has just helped make all these nasty football clubs stand down. His stock is high, football way more important than a few bakhanders for Dyson. He knows what he, s doing. Labour just sounding silly. Again.
And I agree re sounding Tory.. Saying things as they are has become a Tory trait.Did you hear Starmer this morning, trying to sound offended... He, s just playing in to Tory hands. Every time.
I, m afraid this will be seen as just another issue found by Labour /Tory haters to try and discredit the Govt. They really should be more selective with their choice of battles. Only ones offended by it all... search for offence anyway. And, just like Starmer they don't really count anymore. They are continually offended. It loses its impact after years and years of it.

it's clear that BJ does not think he'll need parliament approval.
what would you say if it were JC giving a personal promise that he'll fix the tax rules for his big donors?

Under these circumstances nothing.
And by the way Dyson didn't benefit at all. It cost him to tune of £20million..Its a none story.. The txt message quoted is the only incriminating evidence... But since Dyson didn't benefit and BJ has said exactly what everybody knew he, d say. (desperate times etc) story is already over. Starmer is just trying to taint government with link to Cameron sleaze.. Even if he manages it... So what.. MPs are corrupt. No s4!t Sherlock.

I am aware of the context but not convinced.
It concerns Singaporian staff who supposedly worked on the ventilator project and who needed to travel to the UK. While they are working in the UK, they are supposed to be paid by UK branch of Dyson and subject to UK taxes.
they are the same rules for all temporary workers who are seconded here.
As for the supposed £20 million project, Dyson made a few sketches and when he realised the time it would take to test the software before approval, it was a race against time that is too difficult to win. I don't think he spent that money.
A ventilator is much more complex than a CPAP.
I can understand why Dyson asked for tax concessions but it's not within BJ's authority to change tax rules or grant exceptions to Dyson.
BJ behaves like he owns the country.

I know, anybody would think he was Prime Minister or something important.
What you and I think is fairly irrelevant. It will all be forgotten in a few days.

I don't think so. Sleaze is stealing from the poor and puts people off a big way.
