Richard Okorogheye: I can feel another accusation of police racism coming on. The usual suspects are starting to make their familiar rattling sounds.

Interesting idea hide facts from the public because they are too thick to make a judgement themselves eh?

Much more likely they will react with hostility to anything other than sheep like praise for whatever is the current fashion to wave their little Union Jacks about.

Why should anyone worry about public confidence being so fragile, after the Conservatives succeeded to poorly in controlling the panic, yet despite worse casualties than the Luftwaffe caused, they remain ahead in the polls, and we have one on here who will still vote for them?

Sorry but your notion is simply nonsense, and unlike some I struggle with the notion that even one human life is too big a loss if science can be brought to bear on the problem and prevent that tragedy

Stuff the idea that human lives can be considered collateral damage and the end justifies the means, especially when chances have been taken already with no scientific support behind them.

Worse our vaccines may not prove enough protection against new variants, the extended dosing interval may well have encouraged to appear.

There is an urgent critical need to investigate fully every incident that results in death, people who come out with the sort of crap JHC just did have a complacency that could undo all the effort and work committed to this battle.
Tactical short term successes are no substitute for a pragmatic strategic approach to all aspects of the problem.
You are right they are not but you must keep fighting battle whilst learning new stratagies and developing new weapons.
Would you prefer they just stop all vaccines whilst we search for a perfect one? They have all been associated with various problems.
We have to fight pandemic with best we, ve got at moment, and of course a single life lost is one too many, but that cuts both ways. The lives lost by not vaccinating way exceed those than by vaccinating.
And, just because we are using AZ doesn't mean companies are not still in race to develop better ones.
AZ are developing a vaccine for all current known strains and various companies are working on a universal vaccine to cover all mutations.
In the last war the trusty old Lee Enfield was almost obsolete and dated back to almost a 50 Yr old design. Should they have binned them all until a good automatic came along? Of course not.
Using our current vaccines, including AZ is already saving lives.
Italy is now facing perhaps 400 a day deaths for next month or so.. Without vaccine we, d be seeing same fairly soon. Hopefully not this time.

Be careful of mccarthyism. It has unintended consequences. I have a colleague who cannot accept vaccination because of a rare medical condition. And she is being threatened in unpleasant ways in a health care setting where one would expect managers to know better.
Someone nearby was invited for a vaccination by the GP surgery but is currently suffering a major, possibly fatal, illness. We suggested he ask his hospital support people whether it was appropriate. They suggested not at this moment for various reasons. Possibly in a few weeks or months.

I'd hate to see him inappropriately threatened or harangued. It would be wrong at every level and in every way.

Why ask, you know I have never suggested stopping using any of the vaccines?

I think there have been around 30 cases of this rare blood clot that MIGHT be associated with the AZ vaccine but I have not seen any kind of break down of this number has anyone else?

For example if that 30 were spread across a wide age range and roughly 50/50 male/female then that would be better than if most of that 30 were female and say under 40 with no under lying health conditions.

Perhaps I have missed this break down of the stats but surely if this info has not yet been provided it should be asap.

Exactly.. Nev. That is the point. There does appear to be a concentration in younger females, but the statistics are rather sketchy. What I would find amusing .. except this is anything but, is that our resident racists where yammering on about the Chinese Virus , and all the things wrong in their handling 15months ago, when the statistics were much less defined, and the symptoms were almost indistinguishable from a bad flu.

You are rambling again. Think you mean "were yammering on"
And there are no racists on here.
Anti French/EU doesn't make anyone racist. Anti French is just common sense.

........ and there we have it. The disease which infects this thread. A deep rooted hatred of the U.K.

The hatred is likely to have been seeded by personal failure to achieve. Rather than looking at themselves, they blame the government, the people around them, the country as a whole. This is plain to see in the content of many contributions made on here. It’s funny and it’s pathetic at the same time.

Stupidityfor many would be like spitting at one's own image in a mirror.
.
Doesn’t everyone do that or is it just me? I sometimes punch or head butt my own reflection or stamp on my shadow. I thought it was normal. Are you saying it isn’t?

Not normal for adults. Teenagers fretting about appearance and imagining imperfections often dislike themselves, even to sadly commiting suicide on occasion.

But mentally healthy adults are unshakeably self assured about the uniqueness of their own perfection and how fortunate the world is to have their presence.

I dont agree. Well into my twenties I once broke a mirror punching it impulsively, involuntarily. Self loathing is a complex thing, but I think it's in part part of the human condition (sartre's the outsider comes to mind)
