Do you make a hobby out of being an eejit?.
On the contrary it is blind chance. Every time the virus gets into a cell and starts replication, only a small fraction of the output is identical with the input, .. that is 100% identical. More are 98%, and less and less have more defects until a few are just inert blobs of organic matter. It is these 90% +identical which are the worrying ones . They may contain enough of the RNA replication mechanism, to successfully infect another cell type, and the cell types might be more plentiful , or have lethal consequences. ..and if so that strain multiplies. No intelligence required .. In a way similar to a poster changing their name and becoming more obnoxious with each generation of name change. Say for instance if that Polly character were to increase their word count and make complete sentences .so more people responded . It wouldn't denote intelligence , just evolution, but would be seen as success.
Your original post contained phrases such as, “the virus may decide” as though there is a decision process involved :D

I was simply asking if the viruses meet face to face, have a polite finger buffet prior to the meeting and then discuss their next mutation? Or do they use a digital meeting platform such as Zoom?

It’s a simple enough question. There’s no need to turn nasty.

Even enough mindless actions can have the appearance of directed intelligence... I expect Zs daughter came across that in Fire brigade training in reference to crowd behaviour. Indeed Fire fighters will use the term " decides " in reference to forest fire progression ..which are even less intelligent than viruses

Political expediency once again.

We can't be seen to be banning citizens protests at the same time as criticising Russia fo doing the same. So we have to pretend to permit them while allowing the police to beat up any protestors.
.
Ah the difference between the Russian approach and ours is
We beat up protesters legally and democratically.

That's a relief
And of course in a long tradition :D

They do use the terms “decides” when referencing the direction of forest fire travel. That’s ridiculous and you have just made it up.

At the fire scenes I’ve been involved with, the command use terms such as “direction of travel”, or “the wind is taking”. The term, “the fire has decided” is not used. You ate just being silly. Stop.

Indeed. But whether they can still legitimately be called yachts or even boats comes into question since they are often hydroplanes, a different class of vehicle.

One for the purists to argue over.

Agreed again. Sailing fraternity is rather staid and set in its ways. Designers over last couple of decades have looked at what is available in other wind/water sports and taken it a step further. Personally don't care what you call them, doesn't detract from their ability.
Once had opportunity to go out in Hyrdoptere, (the Ocean going one).
Absolutely stunning. 42 knots in 20 knots of wind...
Sailing modern stuff as got to be best risk reward ratio of anything ever built before...

And back to the real world.. my lad had his AZ vaccine yesterday and had a rather unpleasant night of it.. 39 Degree temperatures, pains in all joints etc but since subsided. Now he is well used to discomfort, and he puts this night into the bad category.

..I attended a lecture by this Francis Collins , Director of this NIH, some 30 years ago. He is what I would rank as an expert in Genetics , and not anyones pawn. So you can take it that the USA has legitimate concerns.

Not as fast as land yachting, for which I have a Pilot's licence
(I must admit I though they were kidding me at Elvington) but anyhow I took the training and passed)
42 Knots? Land yachts normally exceed that, the lunatic holding the world record reached 126.1 MPH in 2009
Since they have no brakes I was only clocked at 72 kph on the square mile

I’m pleased to hear that your son has received his vaccination. I hope the side effects are milder and that he is more comfortable after the second shot.

A bit like road cycling and racing. The UCI banning recumbents back in the 1930s and disc brakes more recently, just because they are different. And the road cycling clubs mostly supporting that restrictive attitude.

Same with public hovercraft, the one crossing to the Isle of White has captains who are qualified pilots as well as their marine qualification.
.
Took me back - to the 1960s when they operated directly from the beach at Lee on the Solent.

By heck, they were noisy.

PS Isle of Wight!

We’ve been down this route before and you’ve had it explained to you.

Like many governments, the U.K. ordered vaccines whilst they were still under development. Remember how we discussed having backup plans running in parallel? Events have shown the the U.K. backed a lot of winners. It could have gone the other way. The over ordering was insurance. It’s why you had your vaccination 10 weeks earlier that you would have done had you lived in France.

The above is not unusual, many countries did exactly the same. The U.K. was quick to order and quick to approve. That’s why we are doing so well.
Like all governments, they are pupets
