our case, hospitalisation and death numbers are still higher than the EU's average.
Let wait until ours beat theirs before congratulating our government.
We were talking about vaccines.
We actually haven't a clue as to why some countries fare better than others. (Belgium has suffered terribly)
We can be objective about vaccines. They are now available. It's a binary choice now for them. You either get one in time or you don't.
The UK has managed to administer to 12% of pupulation. The EU around 2%.
Ursula Von Der Leyen should resign. We, d be demanding it of Boris if it were other way around.

There are other possibilities. For example, get a first Pfizer injection, have a reaction (rash and feeling poorly), advised not to get the second dose. Also advised should not get an AstraZeneca vaccination. Ends up in an indeterminate state of being partially vaccinated.

Agreed but a much better position than no vaccination. Which is dilemna our govt dealt with. The EU aren't even facing that dilemna. They don't have enough vaccines for either strategy.

But the good news is that you now have more protection!
What makes you think that is worth anything?

Firstly it's only partial, but only continuing subject to getting a second jab within 28 days, but that isn't going to happen. I've been told it will be 12 weeks, almost four times that and that isn't on the basis of any evidence whatsover. Indeed one vaccine maker has refused to support that.

I've gone a whole year without contracting Covid-19. The main reason I wanted the jabs was to get a dentist to accept me for treatment, but that got scuppered by the increase from 21 days to 14 weeks for the Pfizer. The only reasons I've gone for this jab now is the issue of protecting others since it might decrease my risk of transmission to them in the event I get it, plus my age making any long term ill effects from th vaccine inconsequential.

If I'd been a decade or two younger I would not have accepted the AZ vaccine on present evidence and would have happily waited until April for the Pfizer.

I don't drink any alcohol so no post vaccine risk to me there !
.
I did actually remember that - but put it in for the benefit of anyone else. I don't drink a lot - we usually split one bottle of wine a week over two days. And that is it.

Agreed but a much better position than no vaccination.
At present I am still in the position of hoping that is the case - and not yet being 100% convinced. The partial evidence we have (as in only part of it rather than not being impartial) suggests we are better off, but falls short of absolute proof.

True - apologies, should have expressly said that. I have have had it installed and been reporting from pretty much the start of the app.

If it was the other way round, Ursula Von Der Leyen would be our Prime Minister and Boris would be President of the European Commission. :p

I wish !

Is that ever going to be an option?
Trying to imagine logistics of folk being able to chose which vaccine they have.?
Out of interest Flecc do you have yearly Flu jab?

Careful what you wish for Flecc. EU have demonstrated their capabilities brilliantly. For their sake she should shoulder blame and leave. If she doesn't it's another one of many growing arguments against EU..???

And yet they managed on the same day to come to the right decision, something this government takes over a year to do, and then only by sheer chance!
Come off it, your anti EU fetish is hanging out again :D

Yes, it will be a timing option in my region, and many others. That's because we've been all Pfizer here so large numbers given the Pfizer first dose, so the Pfizer will return to use here for periods for their second doses. Timing my first jab request online to co-incide, on the website I've been given to do that, should get me the Pfizer.

Out of interest Flecc do you have yearly Flu jab?
Yes, because it had been in use since the late 1960s and annually upgraded ever since. Since I didn't become eligible for it until Autumn 2001 it had over thirty years of proven safety, plus a further twenty years back of partial use such as on our troops.

It’s time to stop spreading doubt over Covid vaccination safety. It’s well tested and it’s safe. Many of the development measures have been done in parallel as opposed to series, which has compressed the time scale. That’s unusual, not because it’s unsafe, but because the urgency isn’t usually as pressing.

If you aren’t happy, shut the **** up, don’t get inoculated. But don’t then go to hospital demanding an iron lung and clog things up for cancer, heart and other serious ailment patients. Die at home.

If on the other hand you want to try and get on top of this virus as part of the global population, get the vaccine and crack on.

There are too many amateur commentators on here talking bull $hit. Listen to the world’s leading independent medical experts only. File the other under I for idiot.

My client, a victim of torture, having fled the civil war in Darfur is not being ‘accommodated’ - he is being detained in a military camp, in ear shot of regular gun fire from MoD firing range, trapped with 400 other ppl, at least 120 of whom have covid, and no proper healthcare
These are disused ex military buildings. They are now decrepit. Dormitories of up to 28 people, shared bathrooms w/ at least 14. No possibility of isolating those with covid. Those who don’t have it are trapped with those who do, waiting to catch it. One nurse for all ‘residents’

You really should enrol on a course for the rehabilitation of people with anger management problems
Firstly I haven't spread doubt about vaccine safety, just the wisdom of extending the vaccination period.
That is a perfectly reasonable point of view, unless you are simply prepared to gamble
Now grow up

Some of the reddit crowd will undoubtedly have made a fortune, but I suspect for a great many of them its all going to end up in tears. There is absolutely no way on any kind of metric that Gamestop is worth anything like the kind of money its share price is currently trading at.

When people eventually get around to weighing what Gamestop is worth, some people are going to lose a great deal of money.
As I said, the little guys don't lose. The money comes from the hedge fund who borrowed the stock and are then forced to buy it back from the little guys at a much higher price. Do you understand how short selling works?

The ordinary guys are not stupid. They have a winning formula and they stick to it. It works something like this:
  • Share price is $20 and the hedge funds have promised to buy 120% of them at some point in the near future.
  • A typical hive member buys four shares at $20 each and waits.
  • There is not enough supply for all hive members, so the price goes up rapidly to $100 because of all the hive buying them, so some hive members have to buy at $100.
  • The hedge fund now needs to close on their promise to buy, but no shares are available, so the hedge fund has to keep upping the offer to say $400 until the hive start to sell.
  • The hive then each dispose of half their shares, so they get $800 ($720 profit if they paid $20 and $400 profit if they paid $100) for the two shares and they keep two shares.
  • There's still not enough supply for the hedge funds to buy because the hive keep half of them. Bear in mind that 120% of the shares were borrowed.
  • The hive holds on to their remaining stock. They don't care about its value anymore because they have their profit. This puts even more pressure on the hedge funds to increase their offers, but the order goes out for everybody to hold, just to stuff one up the hedge funds.

There was a pretty good video by Romanian Tvee that explained the whole situation in his normal entertaining way:
