U.K. has77 cases of SA COVID variant. If they know of 77, I’d say there is actually well over 1000 and it’s out of control.
The UN recognises over 250 countries in the world. Covid is running riot through a great many of them, but probably less than 50 countries have the technology to seriously look for variants. My guess would be that there are lots of variants similar to the Kent, Brasil (two of them) and South African variant.
Our only hope is that the vaccines will work against these variants, or if they do not, it is not too difficult to develop new vaccines that will work against them.

China has already overtaken the USA in 2018, thanks to Donald Trump and the Chinese government knows it.
Trump's 'America first' policy actually helps China exports and drives FDDI to China.
Last year, China received more FDDI than any other country.
