I have been wondering how much of the documentation will not make it into the National Archives for future generations to assess. Whether by avoidance of writing things down in the first place or somehow disappearing.

I suspect that there will be a contrast between what the UK politicians have said/admitted in public and reality. Whether the best commentators are any more accurate remains to be seen.

I don't see why any of the in process documents should ever be archived. The only thing which matters in the final version and the final briefing notes

Historians love background information which can help to interpret the public documents. And many of us have been fascinated by some of the things that have been revealed by sometimes unexpected documents.

I'd not want any of this lot to get away with hiding their actions even if it takes several decades to be published.

I see a difference between a position paper presented to a cabinet ,and a proposal introduced for horse trading purposes.

What I expect to find in the fullness of time is that the new "demands" from the EU are legal clarifications of pre existing positions. The reason for these clarifications is because the UK has lost the trust of the EU . In terms of an own goal the insistence by BJ to go against the advice of the HoLs and "even in a limited way" to break an existing treaty takes some beating. Especially when at the exact same time you are trying to negotiate an even bigger treaty.
There were very interesting asides yesterday from our Simon Coveney , the Foreign Affairs Minister regarding fisheries.
His view is very much contrary to the UK position.
1. This is about coastal communities in Ireland and France ,not about money. Money or compensation will not fix it.
2. The UK or the BJ Cabinet see this as a acid public test of sovereignty, and would give money
Of significance is that Coveney constituency is very much a coastal region.

That's a typically English view of the EU, and wrong because it completely misunderstands what the EU is about and why it was formed.
