we are so close to one or two good vaccines.
A late Christmas for older people may be the best compromise.

If we'd been following what I've been advocating, there wouldn't be a massive rise then. We'd just have been experiencing a somewhat higher level of deaths but with a barely damaged economy:

Yes to:

Work from home where possible, otherwise still go to work.

Keep all retail open.

Keep all education running.

Voluntary Face masks in public buildings like shops and workplaces where possible.

Advise to maintain social distancing.

Severe restrictions on international travel and goods inwards plus compulsory quarantining.

No to:

Lockdowns.

Shutting down workplaces.

Enforcement and fines for no-compliance with advice. Let the death rate fear do the policing.
.
Pubs / restaurants? Work crimbo dinners? Family gatherings?

Sports open up stadiums for footie and rugby?

Or just how it was before lock down 2 - but weren't hospitals up north filling up rapidly following the rise of infection rates hence the lockdown.

What are your thoughts on pubs & restaurants? From my brief glimpse inside a pub after lockdown 1, it looked horrendous. It was packed and nobody was wearing a mask. Inevitably, there was an outbreak traced to that pub, resulting in the mobile testing crew coming to town.

I keep hearing that hospitality is low risk for spreading the disease, but I can’t see how that can be true.

Will it make any difference to me though? Does anybody really give a sod about the corporate world ?

Meanwhile the USA passes a milestone with 250,000 now dead from covid-19. Thanks Mr President you are correct in thinking all this happened "on your watch" history will recall it.
It already is making a difference. Haven't you noticed that you're locked in your house and you haven't had any interest on your savings since 2008.

There is a major difference between a high class expensive restaurant with a few clients sitting at tables and waiters flitting around, and the que outside a burger joint at 2am , and even more a sing song and people shouting in a crowded pub, or packed on a dancefloor .
At the moment we have local bars and restaurants selling coffees and pizza slices as take aways, and the patrons sitting on cushioning provided by the bar, on a sea wall. In the open air...and maybe freezing The coffees can be legally fortified!...brandy being popular.

Infections from customers to waiters is highly unlikely in the first instance due to the height difference, but I suspect the reverse is not true.. especially as those visors are being used by waiters

Is that it?

That's your argument?

Pathetic.

It's IN Michigan does not mean it IS Michigan.

You said Michigan had flipped not that a county within Michigan had flipped!

The fact that you equate the two shows how far you will go to bend facts for your own selfish ends.

Your status as a sad little troll is confirmed.

It's not too late though vfr - as I said to you weeks ago - all you need to do is send in a post saying something like darn it and drat you know what James you're right equating Michigan with a county within Michigan is an error.

Then I can stop calling you a sad little troll.
I never said "all" of Michigan. That was your interpretation. I didn't equate anything. That was you!

Is there a lockdown in force anywhere? I can't see any evidence of one. Most shops I know of appear to be open as are all schools & colleges of course. Many offices where pal's of mine work are in full swing as well, in fact all seems normal...lockdown...what lockdown.

Anyone hear the story of the Indian restaurant can't remember where it was which was raided by the law and found to have 150 customers crammed inside ! It was fined 10 grand but the very next day it was raided AGAIN and again found to be packed solid. The owners said when questioned they WERE following social distancing rules :D

Obviously I couldn't quote every case, but sports stadia closed of course as being unnecessary. Pubs and works celebrations with drink likewise, since one can drink at home in smaller numbers and many already do anyway, as witness all the permanently closed down pubs.

As I've been posting for a long time, once we'd got it wrong at the outset we needed to change course, take the infection hit but gain hugely economically. That would have given some meaning and purpose to those who lost their lives. We didn't change course and got the worst of both worlds, meaning those over 50k lives so far were lost without meaning or purpose.

Iv'e got a 1964 Triumph Tiger 90 that belonged to my Dad. He did a full restoration on it during 1980, rode it until 1985 and then parked it up. It's never even been started since then.

I'm not sure what to do with it, I don't have a bike licence or the time to get it road worthy again. I definitely don't want to part with it, but feel as though it should be put back into a usable state. Do restoration companies / businesses exist? Any recommendations? I can transport it anywhere.
Yes there are several restoration companies, but they're quite expensive, so probably not cost effective. I would sell it in the state it's in. It won't make a massive difference to the price. It'll make someone happy. You'd probably get £3500 as it stands and around £5000 restored.

I had a Triumph 21, the cooking version of the Tiger 90, when I was at uni, then I had a Daytona 500cc in 1978. I liked them both at the time, but not a patch on an A10.

I think the saddest thing overall with this crisis for the UK is that we've had a 50k loss of life and a huge hit financially, both that will take years to get over. Those that have lost loved ones will of course never get over it just like those that have been ruined financially. No real winners unless you were flogging PPE equip of course :)

Eating out, especially at cheap restaurants, is a pretty high risk activity.
So save your money, just cook.

Have you see this vfr - any thoughts?

View attachment 39396
As each station recorded their counts, on average, Trump was getting 52% of the votes. Looking at each bar on the graph, they're fairly close to 50/50 apart from a couple of the early ones, where Trump got maybe 65% or 70%, then a massive amount of Milwaukee votes are added in one go with Biden getting 80% of those votes. That doesn't fit at all with the rest of the pattern. Why would Milwaukee people vote for Biden 6 times as many as anywhere else in the state? Logic says that there is something seriously wrong with that count that needs to be investigated, and that's what Trump is justifiably pointing out.

What are your thoughts on it? Do you see it like that too? Have I explained enough how the graph works?

No I'm not locked in vfr, the locks on my home can be operated from the inside and yes my savings do get a (tiny) bit of interest. If they didn't I wouldn't bother saving any cash, as obviously I would end up loosing money and I don't. If there is a big reset (which I doubt..see China) I wouldn't think if will effect me one iota nor you either because like me you have your head screwed correctly.

The lockdown has helped me to save money. I used to get my regular Chinese lemon chicken on a Friday night. Now I have learn't to make it myself exactly the same as the Chinese, if not better. I also figured out how to make fried chicken in sticky barbecue sauce, which is also one of my favourites that I got form KFC.

You are actually losing money if you have cash savings. That's how it works. It's only an illusion that you're not. The low interest rates have always been behind inflation since 2008, regardless of any published figures, so each year a couple of percent or more of saved money has gone in terms of what you can do with it.

These are the current government rules for the lockdown. Whilst you may be physically able to open your door, you're not supposed to go out except in special circumstances. Do you break these rules?:
