It was confusing process - I didn't get an initial letter, though saw something on gov website to self-register

https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

but wasn't sure how I was going to pay for supplies - not wanting to put friends and family (Sis lives 40 miles away) out (busy with their kids, jobs and elderly relatives) so continued popping into town to Sainsbury & CO-OP to get my fave yellow sticker bargains and occaisonal bottle of rose / Shiraz.

Though did get a vague general text a few weeks later (April 15) from docs surgery to " Ask family, friends or local community groups to deliver the food and support you need." - nothing about shielding
This is the list letter , I keep wanting to call it "Shieldlers List"

I wanted to point out in my post how the Government's interfering albeit maybe for the best of reasons, was in fact slowing the whole food delivery system down, Supermarkets had it sorted. Tesco's during mid crisis were creating 2 million delivery slots a week, pity they couldn't have done the covid tests.

My local giant superstore even had an emergency system in place they were able to launch to make sure the public were supplied with food. A few years back the water pumps in the apartments where I live failed, no one could offer any immediate help not the management nobody. How do you get by with no water ? Again Supermarkets to the rescue, they were able to supply us with thousands of Ltrs of bottled water when nobody else could. Very powerful organisations Supermarkets.

Facial recognition? Why is that part of the T&T app?
It is being discussed as part of the "NHS app". And there have been suggestions that T&T will in some way become part of, or linked to, the NHS app.

I am not currrently able to use NHS app so it might not be an issue. But I suspect at some point we will get it simply because of the excess overheads of developing a Wales-only app.

Best ask Public Health England and Cambridge University, I merely reported their reported findings, trusting that these respected bodies are generally reliable.

But they did NOT say free by this weekend, they said MAY be free for June which is 30 days long. Obviously it's for your risk assessment whether you travel in June, I would since the risks of this pandemic are obviously being greatly exaggerated.

I really shouldn't have to explain these points, should I?
.
No, you don't have to explain these points.
However, you wrote this about me:

Another one like Danidl trying to deny the evidence because it doesn't fit your predictions?
.
I am not sticking to any of my predictions but I do try to stick to evidence and I read a lot on Covid biochemistry to get my facts as well up to date as possible. So when you talk about me denying evidence, I have objections.
I believe the story about this particular Covid model was originally printed in the Daily Telegraph and repeated in lots other newspapers but no scholarly article was ever printed about it.
Perhaps it's fake news.

But you dont, it's one rule for you and one for others.

You expect me to provide evidential links but expect to fob me off with the ratio of London's population to the national one as evidence of the London current infection rate.

It's not.

And you even tried to suggest London's lower rate than the rest of the country was due to less pollution, ignoring that was true for all the cities and towns in the country, indeed the whole country.

Such arguments aren't science, I view them as insulting my intelligence. They smack of desperation to score points, like your latest suggestion that what I reported may be fake news.

Early on there was a problem with care homes getting supplies - usually they use trade cash & carry but when restrictions on quantities came into force, they were having to send staff out to go round repeatedly to different supermarkets to queue buy & little and often. This was the time bog roll riots were occurring.

Hence why I didn't seek help even after I got my text a month or so later - as I had a four pack of bog roll and supermarkets still as you side maintained just about adequate stock even under heavy demand from stockpilers.

My txt in its entirety > "If you are EITHER aged 70+ OR 18+ and offered a flu jab due to a health condition, you are at more risk from coronavirus. Please follow GOVMT advice. Ask family, friends or local community groups to deliver the food and support you need. If you lack such support please call 0300 303 9988 "

I went looking for the said study and could not find any.
I never said that London has lower infection rate. I don't know and I suspect not. I think the probable Re number for large towns and cities is 0.9, much higher than the UK government claims.
Such arguments aren't science, I view them as insulting my intelligence. They smack of desperation to score points, like your latest suggestion that what I reported may be fake news.
.
I usually substantiate how I come to those numbers, including widely accepted formulas - you can wiki them up, but do realise that formulas and calculations are boring.
The suggestion of the original article in the DT was fake news is due to the lack of any searchable study claiming such a low number (24 a day) of new confirmed cases. I don't believe it's true.
today's official figures are:
2,013 new cases and 412 new deaths
so only 24 cases in London is laughable.
You can take a low Re, extend the time, you can wipe out any infectious disease.
Let's wait until November and continue this discussion then.
Defend Cummings if you must, I think he is a dangerous nutter who used his kid to defend his career. He should have been sacked.

i‘ve just been looking at Baroness Dildo’s CV. It doesn’t fill me with confidence. Not a good track record at all, but she is well connected to the people who turn the handles on these public moneygorounds.

I‘m pretty sure track & trace is going to be a colossal fuckup.

We didn't get any texts, well my other half didn't. I wouldn't know about my phone I don't keep it switched on, it runs the battery down. I know you could ring your own Doctor and they had the authority to press a button and put you on the list but that didn't work in her case, she called the Surgery and the Doc started droning on about medication I think she was confused poor soul.

I'll pay my first visit to Tesco's tomorrow, see if they have any Spaghetti. Funny they didn't run out of anything over there during covid only Spaghetti.

The following is one of the references to this model dated 15 May. There are plenty of others, including one from a Shiela Bird, . They are all very polite as Academics tend to be, but certainly not whole hearted agreement with the inferences of 24 infection ...

Prof Matt Keeling, Professor of Populations and Disease, University of Warwick, said:

“I’d like to express a note of caution regarding the figures quoted from the University of Cambridge’s MRC Biostatistics Unit. I’ll start by saying that I have the greatest respect for both the researchers and the science from this world leading unit – but as ever science is about thorough scrutiny by one’s peers.

“On the whole I would generally agree with many of the findings reported by the Unit – R is generally about 0.7-0.8 in many regions of the country, although potentially slightly higher in the devolved nations. However, I feel the R value quoted for London is extremely low – Warwick University predictions put the value closer to 0.6; this still predicts a faster decline in London than the rest of the country but not as dramatic as predicted by the MRC Biostatistics Unit, and therefore we would predict far more infections. The difference between 0.4 and 0.6 might sound like scientists arguing over small details, but these translate to very substantial differences in the rate of decline of cases (or the time for the epidemic to halve).

“So what is generating these differences? The MRC Biostatistics Unit has considered deaths due to coronavirus as their main quantity of interest – in London this is falling far more rapidly than other measures of the outbreak such as hospital admissions.

“What this study highlights is that London is experiencing a subtly different epidemic to other regions of the country, with a more rapid decline and different relationships between ICU occupancy, hospital occupancy and deaths. This is clearly something that needs to be understood in more detail, as it may be important for how different areas of the country exit from lock-down.

“I am extremely worried about the media message that ‘London could be coronavirus free in days’. At the moment there is way too much uncertainty in factors such as asymptomatic transmission or infection in the health-care worker population to make this claim. Londoners have made a brilliant effort in adhering to lock-down advice, and bringing the infection under control. If people think London is coronavirus-free that could be dangerous, and could lead to complacency, undermining all the struggles and sacrifices that everyone has made so far. A relaxation of vigilance could easily see R increasing above 1, and a second epidemic wave.”

I want to want to install the app and help with tracing.

Am inclined not to at present. Lack of trust in security and how well it has been written. Lack of proper explanation of how it is even supposed to work. Lots of questions about the possible linking to the (English) NHS app and facial recognition.
Don't give them your name Pike!
Seems like good advice without rather better safeguards

Sorry if it’s been mentioned before, but Baroness Dildo, the person appointed by the government to lead T&T and look after our personal data, presided over the loss of 17 million Talk Talk customers personal and financial details to computer hackers when she was CEO there.
